now found (had to retype):

"10. Over-the-Horizon (OTH) Weapon System Development - $31M
Procures 5 test missile and 3 Inert Operational Missiles for
testing to support the outfitting of a second LCS class ship
with an extended range offensive cruise missile capability,
supporting continued planned lethality upgrades to the entire
class. This funding enables is [LOL not my typo here!] required
to keep planned lethality upgrades to remain aligned on both
LCS ships." at p. 4 of Document: Navy’s FY 2018 Unfunded Priorities List

Ok so it's just enough for one ship instead of 2 or 3 that makes a little more sense must have misread the article before

These are most likely the NSM for the Freedom as I recall the funding for it was denied by one committee on the house

Isn't that interesting only 4 harpoon because of weight I wonder if thats yet another reason for Boeing withdrawing it from the competition
Without going in détails in more what exact reason ??
Independence's is in aluminium less resistant and narrow bow

Each Harpoon do 700 kg considering plus launcher with the rest about 3 - 4 tons
NSM do 400 kg so about 2 + tons so in this case 8 possible.

But mentionned this place is normaly for Helfire VLS... IIRC possible also Mk-41 with ESSM etc... ?

You mean it for AShMs o_O

I agree. Originally they talked about a Mk-41 tere...probably eight cells. I have to believe they could accomodate eight Harpoons if they had to.

In any case, the frigate version needs (and I believe will get) 8 x ASMs.

We want it it is the right load !
Remains curious put 4 Harpoons to this place on a narrrow bow and " perched " exposed to spray Smileys perplexe.PNG all combattants have such missiles amidships and Independence is enough big to have also.

The duo MH-60S and MQ-8B remains interesting to examine, yet with small MQ-8B the number is important 3 aircrafts then many available in more even small MQ-8B can remains 10 h in flight so an idela duo especialy for pirates surely capabe to watch to 100 + km and MH-60R can be armed with 8 Helfire.

But this duo get a low power against true threads cuz MQ-8B is not armed and the MH-60S don' t have ASW capability in more LCS don' t have hull's sonar ... !
It is the MH-60R the true combattant with all the panoply, USN have enough for LCS but in relation with her missions embark normaly MH-60S.

Remains very interesting armed later MQ-8C with rockets eventualy Helfire 2 - 4 in small pods for weight cuz even if Helfire is a small missiles if a boat not too big get hitted by severals can be damaged.

Weird stuff for sure the whole LCS concept has been a strange mess since the start from cost overruns to redesigns to mission packaged that don't work or are so expensive they cant be bought to breakdowns weight restrictions politics (jobs) it's been a total disaster hopefully they get it right with the frigate this time but judging from the past I quite frankly have my doubts

BINGO! "One big win that came from that is the fleet’s identification of the need for an over-the-horizon missile."
