Another picture taken from the naval news website which has a better angle on the NSM installation.

It seems from the picture that there is sufficient spacing at least for 6 cell VLS - weight issue aside. This would provide the LCS credible AAW capability given the prospective threat of operating in China's backyard. .

anyway did they aim at anything at all, or just "released" the missile?

(had they hit something, they would've boasted, I guess)

now again noticed many people in Internet enthusiastic about the NSM while, as I said before, I'm unsure of its imaging seeker;

how easily can it be spoofed? how close the missile has to get to make it possible for the seeker to lock on? how the seeker discriminates in between ships if they sail in a group? and so on, just thinking aloud

Image quality is a function of IR band and lR conditions prevailing. The technical details are unknown However the key point is IR imaging is passive. This combined with its stealth shaping and sea skimming allows it to penetrate defensive layers undetected. Its high G terminal phase maneuvering capability makes it difficult to intercept. As a rule of thumb, an intercepting missile
will require about five times the G capability of the target to complete a successful intercept. Overall these features make the NSM a very capable and deadly ASM.

You can't spoof IR imaging. You can use DIRCM to blind it provided you can detect and intercept it to begin with.

In other words, it is a smart missile and not a dumb projectile like most supersonic missiles which depends on brute force

what would be a typical predetermined distance from the expected target position, at which the NSM seeker is activated to acquire the target and to lock on it?

(it's about 10 km (ten kilometers) for an Exocet -- of course ARH)

lobbying a missile = "a terrific accomplishment" really? but yeah, for the LCS program it's kind of true
