I'd sooner trust the metal shield than a plastic riot shield.

Those are used to protect against projectiles, I don't know how they would stand up to some of the pictures of weapons I've seen that were used in Galwan.

A heavier mass means its less likely to move around when struck. You can also clobber the enemy with them, just like in medieval times.

Heavier mass also means that you need to abandon it when the tide of battle turns, which will leave you exposed. Imagine trying to navigate the icy cold, fast flowing streams of Galwan Valley with that thing on your back.

So it appears India is slowly accepting buffer deal from China. From we will take Aksai Chin no matter how much blood it costs us (said by Amit Shah) to failing to shift Indian control eastward to now accepting China's bargain without even a compromise being granted.

Looks like the same as Pangong disengagement - buffer deal. Remaining standoff regions to the north and in Demchok still unresolved but good progress. Modi doesn't want to do it too fast but he also shouldn't stall it otherwise his opponents are going to start hammering him on this unless he pays off the right people with the right incentives.
