I had not realized how big JH-7 was until now. I assumes about Tornado size, but it is almost F111 size!

JH-7A is PL-8 capable? I only recall seeing them firing PL-5 before.

I think they have always been PL8 capable. I do not recall any news of upgrades for them to add PL8 capabilities. But they have always had the ability to fire PL12s, which is normally paired with PL8s, so it would not make a lot of sense to integrate PL12s and not PL8s.
They just used to carry PL5s (some of which are actually PL8s and mislabelled) because of the lower weight and because PL8s were probably prioritised for air superiority types like J11s and J10s.
I wonder if they are beginning to phase out PL-8 for even legacy J-11/J-10. We know that J-11B and J-10A are PL-10 compatible.
