It will be a good replacement for the hordes of J-7 jets that the PLAAF uses. Once PLAAF starts retiring the J-7, FC-1 can fill in its shoes.

China is already standing up 1 Regiment of J10 and 1 Regiment of Flankers every year, plus J20 is in the equation, in addition many other fighters are coming on line, the need for JF17 ssems unlikely, but China is getting to use it as a testbed for many new developments from which China can learn

do you guys think PLAAF would buy FC-1 ? perhaps block 3 ?

i think we should go by whats confirmed rather than guessing

Block II is due to have better avionics, smarter weapons, air-to-air refueling, enhanced datalinks and development of a duel seat version (if possible)

these 50 aircraft will form first squadron down on the coast near Karachi, (this will be the 3rd JF17 Sqaudron) replacing Mirages also in naval varients, thats why we seen JF17 with C-80X anti-ship missiles, ZDK-03 AWACS delivery, we can be sure that is likely to be the case

PAC Kamra to date has built 38 out of the 42 JF17 Block I with the last remaining due to be delivered in April 2012 which will complete 26 Sqn at Peshawar and 16 Sqn

as far as Block III is concerned it just rumours and speculation

jf-17/fc-1 too outdated for plaaf.when you have j-11, j-10 and j-20 why do you need a crap like jf-17. china is the next superpower. so their airforce should pack a punch. jf-17 is mig-33 based fighter, an eighties design so no need for jf-17/fc-1

I would not write off FC-1 so quickly, although today's Plaaf is in much better shape than a decade ago, it has a huge country to dedend, and being a still poor developing nation, China has to prioritize, thus has to remain tight-handed on military hardwares. This is why for a long time to go, quite some vintage eqipments will continue in service, for example, although J-7 will gradually be relieved of first-line-of-duty deployment, it's a safe bet they will not get decommissioned soon. Besides, Chinese people are famous for their frugality.
On a specific note, I think FC-1 can be an economical Replacement of aging Q-5s fiying CAS missions. It is much cheaper than MKK30 or JH7, has better survivability than Q-5 and a decent payload with the capacity to handle smart ammunitions. As J20 and J10b are tasked with air supremacy, J-11 with deep penetration, Fc-1 can take the niche of CAS.
By f-22' standard, A-10 is also outdated. HoweVer, it remains in service. For a nation much poorer and in much urgent need for CAS capacity, IMHO, FC-1 can still be a compelling choice.
