Re: New JF-17/FC-1 thread

Well, yes I take your point. What I originally inteded to say was that I think in a rather stand-alone engagement with indian -30MKIs, I would think the F-16 to be the better choice.
In a broader scenario they might be able to sneak in via fighter sweep (off a threat axis set up by F-16) undetected and guided by AEW. In that context, does the SD-10 have some kind of hand-off capability?
Once WVR, if they manage to come there, their small size might help, but once again I see a slight disadvantage in the weapons against indian R-73.

All together quiet a nice multi-role workhorse for PAF.

PAF's choice for a WVRAAM missile will heavily depend on their choice of a radar on JF-17. According to the most recent interview of the ACM, they're going for a 5th Gen WVRAAM.

Don't be surprised if it is A-darter. Not sure if they will ever disclose it though.
They just revealed production of U-Darters at PIA precision engineering at IDEAS.

H Khan apparently reavled they have moved on to A-darters (the whole post was hushed up later by Usman and others by saying "who knows")

The AMRAAM does not have a hand off capability (its only being proposed) much less the SD-10. The only missile that I know has a handoff is the one used by the MiG-31. R-37?

I don't think it's wise for anything to go against a bunch of MKIs head on in med to high altitude. Even with F-16s and J-10s, it's iffy against going head on against the MKIs.

True, although in my perception the R-73 isn't that good when it comes to flare resistance.

aim-54 had handoff capability too, it was tested with the hawkeye. One would assume handoff isn't that big of a deal, actually, and if needed, even amraam class weapons could posess such a feature.

To justify handoff capability, you need an extremely long range missile. AIM-54 and R-37 fits the bill. AMRAAM, whose middle name includes Medium Range, doesn't.

Small arms deal is said to be assured one. It going to take place.

Tanks at IDEAS impressed the Azerbaijanis. There may be high level discussions but deal might go a little slow.

As for JF-17, although Azerbaijan press it self has reported that country "is going to buy it", lets wait & see.
