I've seen some anime that has carrier and warship concepts that would make Planeman blush, like multihulled carriers, though they seem to be used for launching mechs off using the steam catapult.

If you're into aviation and futuristic craft designs, I recommend the OVA series Yukikaze.

don't forget the ultimate weapons of all times: gundams

and the ultimate warships: archangel class

and the ultimate soldiers: supersaiyans

Please for the love of pete leave the goddamn gundams at the door, and don't get me started on how DBZ ruined mankind!
I will however back the Yukikaze, Add Rahzephon for poetic mix and some cool mecha ( and the Music ) Gazaraki for a taste the closest too real mecha I have yet too see.

I jut finished watching all 26 episodes of Zipang. The story is about a jmsdf destroyer mirai who travels back in time to 1942 during a trainings mission. They end up in the middle of the battle at midway. It's best to see for yourself.

I think every navy-fanboy should watch this serie. I don't need to explain it, but a 21st century destroyer going 60 years back in time gives one hell of a thrill. One scene that still hunts me is when the mirai blasts 40 planes out of the sky.

I freaked out when I saw the pistol-style grip for shooting the 127mm gun!!!

Anyway it's free for anyone to watch at:
