Assuming 8100kg internal fuel and equal range as Su-27, that is 16% less fuel consumption and thus 16% less thrust? Less draggier airframe to compensate for the lower bypass ratio the J-35A engines will have, gives me 23700lbf for the engines.

This is of course a very simple back of a (used) napkin calculation.
You probably don’t want to use wet thrust for this type of calculation since we’re talking about cruise here. Dry thrust is… also far from perfect, but probably a better gauge. Take around 76.5kn dry thrust of an al-31f and do the same calculations we get that the J-35A’s engines should have dry thrust somewhere in the vicinity of around 64kn, which isn’t unrealistic if you compare it to things like F-414EPE, EJ200 and the likes.

Indeed, 15k-16k lbf dry should be doable considering advancements in materials and design. 2/3*23700=15800 afterall.

I was thinking about posting that too, but something about it looks a bit off: Maybe it's just digital zoom artifacts, but it almost feels a little photoshopped.
Nowadays many phones sold in the past 5 years have introduced "AI enhancement" as default setting to their camera app. The "fake" effect is visible when looking at details and cropping even if one does not use digital zoom when shooting. Most users would not be aware and to turn it off.

To be honest, I hate "AI" which makes real to fake.

Which reminds me... Where's the EODAS?
what do you mean? Isn't it obvious? The windows are clearly orange tinted glasses, not dummy or cover.

On a side note, back during the Zhuhai show, we've seen two versions of J-35A, the photo above with traditional horizontal stablizer and one with the "fancy" stablizer below. Now I looked through my collection again, these ones with "fancy" stablizer have no EODAS windows on the nose, the one under the belly is only a bump without glass. This makes me think that this airframe was a converted old airframe (probably from early FC-31 v2) for the air show, not production variant.

无标题2.jpgUnderside dummy, no windows on the sides of the nose.

In today's podcast, Yankee confirmed the following points:

1. The first unit to receive the J-35A will operate a mixed fleet of J-20 and J-35A.This unit has more of a research and development role than a combat one, tasked with training other units, testing new software, and pioneering new tactics.

2. The J-35A also serves as an aggressor aircraft, simulating the large numbers of F-35 in China's vicinity during BVR and close-range air combat training.

3. The J-35A's internal fuel capacity exceeds 8 tons, giving it a range no weaker than that of older Flanker variants
Any info on J-35 internal weapon bay size, like how many missiles can it fit, can it carry 2 1000kg bombs or 2 500 kg bombs, etc. Could tell a lot about its role.

Sorry, there is no information on this matter.
It can be inferred from previously know information and some rumours.

For example, the FC-31V2 can carry 4 500 kg bombs internally (and another 4 externally).

There's also an infographic with 4 A2G missiles IIRC? Anyhow, the J-35/A's IWB dimensions is expected to be mostly identical with the J-20's (except for depth, which some rumours actually suggest that it may have a deeper IWB?). So 6 fin-folding PL-15s, etc.

Interesting, but IMO point 1. still sounds more like a FTTB-unit like the 176th and/or 172nd Air Brigades than the 9th AB.
