Out of interest, any reasoning for why you're calling the twin seat J-20 "J-20B" rather than "J-20AS" or "J-20S"?

Because I note that of course moves all of the subsequent designations to the right as well, as the WS-15 J-20 would be called J-20C, which I suppose in this context would at least be more logical than calling the WS-10 equipped single seat J-20 as "J-20B" -- but it still would have the odd precedent of having a twin seat variant of a single seat aircraft adopt a successive variant name rather than a "S" variant name.

That’s what I learned from some reliable sources within China, like yankeesama. Yes WS-15 powered J-20 is now called J-20C. It appears they are following even more closely with USAF.

Well, it could simply mean its role and capabilities. If it was a simple two seater change, than the added S would be ok. But as with j10a and j10b, this B may mean there are deeper modifications abound.
That being said, perhaps not as big to change the role of the plane variant completely, as then that might warrant a whole new designation. Just how j16 is a whole new letter and not j11c or something else.

Then again, it is entirely possible that systemic designations have been thrown out of the window and they don't meant much anymore.

Thanks. Well that is a bit strange, but I suppose we will know in time
