interesting statement from Lockmart on J-20

China “has increased production of the J-20—which is their fifth-generation airplane—to over 100 units a year

I assume that they have access to this information. Interesting to note that J-20 production is over 100 a year. So if we had to the number we thought they had at start of 2024, we are probably close to 350.

@Deino agreed?

350 checks out given the pace of units being reported in the past, the 200th plane delivered in july 2023 and the rumors of 100 delievered in 2024. (And this LM head claim as well)

Unrelated to just j20, if PLA is getting some 150 combat planes per year, and even if just a 30 year lifespan per plane is assumed, then pla seems to be on track to operate 4500 planes sometime in the future. Basically double its inventory today.

Dude was reading @Deino tweets…

Just kidding. But I do find his comparison between J-20 and F-35 productions disingenuous. He is comparing the number of F-35s produced for all nations with the number of J-20s produced for just China. This is not even getting into the heavy vs light fighter debate.

Assuming he's only talking 5th gens then J-35 production should swing the balance in China's favour.

If CAC is producing 100 from the current factory, and there is a bigger new factory about to start production, what do you think J-20 production will be when both factories are operating?

Which bigger factory would that be? Current output is achieved by combined ex j10 facilities to the southeast of the runway, the rebuilt facilities to the northeast of the runway and the more recent facilities to the northwest of the runway.

The most recent facilities, what do you think production rate will be once all the facilities being built are in full rate production?

I think we will find out, but based on the satellite photos posted by Rick a while back, it certainly looks like higher production is possible. Without knowing what the supply chain is doing, it's kind of hard to know where the total production will be.

I don't think the new facility is fully ramped up yet. It normally takes about a year or two for newly built facility to fully ramp.
