What is with PLAAF love for unguided rockets? Is it because it is easy to wow domestic audience for its cheap cheap cost?
It's more PGMs are classified while rockets are not, so to play it safe instead of "is this safe for public consumption, what about this one" and getting it wrong sometimes with that PL-17 picture the publicity people just go find pictures and videos of rockets and go with those.

I don't see why 8x isn't realistic.

Weight, and footprint (in particular overall width/wingspan and associated horizontal clearance space requirements) when seeing a PL-15 and PL-17 side by side, does make it unlikely that 8x PL-17s could be carried externally on a J-20 (as well as J-16/Flanker airframe for that matter).

J-20S is about to enter service in numbers. Apparently feedback in test units are enthusiastic.

The J-20S should also be a very excellent platform for training future J-36 pilots beyond serving as command nodes for future Chinese loyal wingman-type UCAVs, given that the J-20S has been serving as the "X/YJ-plane" for the PLAAF to study and evaluate on what they want to see on their future aerial combat systems.
