J-15 carrier-borne fighter thread

I just found it too and wanted to ask if it is „Just a fancy pilot or exercise patch or a hint on how the PLAN Naval Aviation J-15D‘s tail art will look like?“

But I think it‘s not for the B?!

The words XXXXfare officer indicate that the patch is for the flyer other than the pilot. Thus we can assume that this is a 2 seater J15(?). And the word XXXXfare is opened to educated guess. My guess is EW warfare officer, though I could be wrong.

There have been lots of these "fansy" patches float around, but I find no such patches being wore by PLAN pilots. They all wear a shield shaped patch of PLAN aviation which is identical across all types of aicrafts on their right arm. Then some of them wear a round patch on their chest. They wear no patches on their left arms.

Besides, all these known official patches are incripted in Chinese characters or Pinyin, not English. What is the purpose of English anyway, to identify yourself when being a POW? So I have a very hard time to believe that these "fansy" patches are official PLAN items. They could be "personal" items by SAC working teams or just creation of internet cosplay items.

Are the stores pylons below the intakes ever used by J-15 in carrier ops? To me they look like any store there would hit the deck on landing.

IIRC, any unused munitions are dumped before landing on carriers for safety reasons.
That's not how USN does it. Dumb bombs, sure, but PGMs are $$$ so combat loads are often dictated by bringback capacity (i.e.. what the aircraft can land on deck with), especially when there's only a limited chance of weapon use e.g. patrols over Iraq/Afghanistan etc.

No one disposed of all unused munitions just for "safety reasons". It's hardly USN exclusive.

Bring back capacity varies based on aircraft and what the carrier can recover.

An aircraft will eject what they can't bring back to remain within capacity limits. There's no reason to think the PLAN are any different.

For the PLAN who operate its carriers close to home for the most part, there are additional options, such as re-routing planes with unspent ordinance to a nearby land base. It can even call in air force tankers to top up the J15 if needed since all PLA fastjets use the same refuelling system.
