J-15 carrier-borne fighter thread

and why pray tell?? when Shenyang has an aircraft, that a majority of aviation commentators/spectators in the world believe is very well positioned to fill that void, should the Chinese Communist Government decide to listen to a bunch of amateurs and throw it out???
I think you have things confused. It is the bunch of amateurs/spectators that believe that the J-31 is a great aircraft for Chinese carriers and the CCP is listening, instead, to its own Generals and Admirals, who have evaluated J-31's performance with full disclosure and so far, not given it any praise, nor publicly indicated that it has satisfied the requirements to merit funding or induction.

Maybe there's something in the vaporware that's very promising and has the potential to perform circles around J-31. If that were the case and it were left to me, I'd tell them to proceed with that project post haste. Since there is no dire threat requiring stealth fighters on carriers, I have no reason to rush J-31 into production to get something stealthy on a ship. I can wait for something better if it's there.

You may have a point. FC-1/JF-17 is an export project by the same company that makes the J-10. Now does that apply to the FC-31? It is made by a competing company and was it designed purely as an export product? PLAAF does not want it but as of now what is the opinion of the PLAN? But it may very well go down the FC-1 road and be a low-cost 5th gen fighter just for export.

But a navalized J-20 will become a priority if the Indians decide to field navalized Su-57 on the INS Vishal or its follow-ups.

Well, my point is what Chinese can pull the same trick: use as much mission electronics as possible, at the same time making the whole airframe completely anew. It's especially relevant, since NATF actually did promise good savings without JSF compromises(say, they always planned to just have their separate production line), and to actually fill branches' needs.

IMHO, it sounds much more plausible than using questionable FC-31.

Why? What is the inherent advantage of using a clean-sheet design over the current FC-31 configuration?

I don't understand the obsession with a navalized J-20, which is essentially forcing a PLAAF-destined aircraft down a naval path. You don't need a Su-57-sized aircraft to confront the Su-57, much like the USN wouldn't need a NATF-sized airframe to deal with PLANAF J-15s.

Again, just because they haven't publicly given "praise" or "approval" of the FC-31 design doesn't mean that similar assessment's haven't been done away from the public eye.

You don't, but it's unimportant.
NATF-sized airframe was necessary not just to confront Soviet MFIs, but first and foremost to stop prospective threat(namely Blackjacks and Backfire replacements, possibly escorted by MFIs) from eating CSG alive.
ATA was necessary not just to fly into the evil A2AD networks with a bomb(nuclear if necessary), but also to let CSGs not go within zone where they will be just overwhelmed.

Naval air superiority is not about killing planes in a honest duel.
It isn't even about killing planes, it's about carriers. Yours and your opponents, as well as and land-based assets within range.

Say, ability of FC-31 to honestly fight F-35s or even bugs means little, if danger will come from multi-directional LRASM strike by several dozens of B-1Bs, which is a very realistic threat by 2020.

So, you're saying that the Communist Chinese Govt, has had NO inclination or indication?? even though they have rebuilt and are operating an aircraft carrier, and have a second floating, that they SHOULD have been building a Fourth Generation Naval Fighter Aircraft? (Chinese Classification)

and why pray tell?? when Shenyang has an aircraft, that a majority of aviation commentators/spectators in the world believe is very well positioned to fill that void, should the Chinese Communist Government decide to listen to a bunch of amateurs and throw it out???

It occurs to me that this is the J-15 thread, and in the meantime, the PLAN does indeed seem to be very happy with the J-15,,, its always possible I suppose for Shenyang to propose an upgraded J-15 with conformal fuel tanks and other mods to minimize signature?? actually I'm anxiously awaiting the J-15S, and a little surprised that we haven't seen at least a half dozen or so two seat birds with hooks for carrier quals?

Again, we have no evidence to believe in secret support for J-31. On the contrary, the snail's pace of progress at 2 prototypes in 6 years highly suggests that project is stalled due to lack of funds/support.

Guys I beg you to stay on topic - and the same for the FC-31 thread - ... some are discussing as if their life would depend on their opinion the FC-31 is a failure or a super-duper-better than J-20-carrier type and even more as if they know better what the PLAN should get and why.

That's ridiculous. Come on ... it is a demonstrator with a certain potential if developed ... nothing more, nothing less.

And now stay here only related to the J-15.
