I think there was a news around mid this year suggested the newest batch of airforce junior pilot was trained in CJ-6, JL-10 then directly J-10, so yeah, don't know how long those J-7 could still be used even as training

The PLA is frugal. They’ll fly them until the lifespan has been exhausted. Once all the J-7s are retired you’ll see the older J-10s and flankers filling in for them.

Are any of them converted into [targeting] drones? I’ve always thought it would be a great idea for PLAAF to use scores and scores of J-7, J-8 and Q-5 drone conversions for certain... umm... contingencies...

I’m thinking something similar to Israeli Airforce vs Syrian SAMs, Bekaa Valley, 1982.

J-7s could potentially be converted into combat drones as well. They're useful in any case as they can potentially absorb enemy fire.

I think J-6 UCAV is already a thing, one theory is that they will be used en masse against Taiwan in early waves to soak up anti-air missile.

Flight Global's prediction for J-10 during the early 90s. It is actually pretty accurate.

A Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force pilot had to bail out of his plane and parachute to safety after two birds struck the aircraft, causing the engine to shut down. The black box recovered from the crash showed that the pilot swerved away from residential areas several times in the last 37 seconds of the flight. He ejected only three seconds before the aircraft crashed.

Generation gaps in platforms (J-10A vs. J-10C in the post above) as well as weapons. Also lacking the formation stripes on both planes and missiles :). However, all planes have low-visibility numbers.
