J-10 Thread IV

Actually it's still quite possible to tell the old ones from the newer. C1R4, and especially C2R3, look distinctly old. C1R2, C2R1 and C2R4 look kind of new, or at least newer than the rest. C1R3 seems to have been installed with different looking petals.
In my naive opinion i think it is not a fair observation. Even on a new plane the engine will not just be installed on a plane without being throughly tested. The heat generated by the exhaust and the afterburner will definitely change the metal colouring.

My hypothesis is that since J-10Cs have more powerful AESAs (as opposed to J-10B's PESAs), the former need the more powerful Series 3 engines to more efficiently power the AESAs.

The thrust differential shouldn't make a difference when it comes to generating juice for the avionics. The upgraded engines were installed to improve its kinematic performance, plain and simple.

That is also why I suspect the J-10C, along with the J-11D, will receive the 145-kN WS-10B variant once it gets certified.

No need to apologise, but even more I owe You a "Sorry", since You are correct, the grey J-10B carries indeed one PL-12 and a PL-15 training round.

I was not implying that should be the case. New planes will certainly be equipped with new, or re-manufactured engines.

To me, China has not ordered as many new batches of AL-31FNs engines as would be required for building new J-10s, maintenance work and replacing old, worn-out ones. So there must be re-manufacturing going on to maintain the number of engines at the required level.

Deino are you sure this is PL-15 in the second pic ? Because i remember when pic of 207 in Nov 2015 cameout with the exact missile hanging, you were unsure that it is PL-15 and you thought most probably it would be the folded SD-10 for J-20.

P.S. Your posts on Page 47.

Yes, I remember my posts then but now I think it is indeed something new. If it is the PL-15 or a PL-XX I don't know, but if You look at the nose section of both missiles and the size of the radome, I have the feeling, that it is a bit different to a PL_12.
