Tbh, the AL-31F is a better engine. Much better SFC for the already shortlegged J-10. A turbojet J-10 would make things worse.
Pity the WS-10 took so long to develop.
Turbojet has much worse range but are easier to produce and maintain and has faster response time than AL-31. If China needed a point defense interceptor type of plane Turmansky might’ve been a better choice, but post Gulf War there has been a major doctrinal shift.
Since there’s an AVIC logo on the JF-17B, One can assume that it has got something to do with either Azerbaijan or some modifications being worked on for PAF
If I'm not mistaken, this engine was to be called WP-15!
