why PLAAF does not like to load up their weapons for their fighters? One PL12 and one PL10, really? Didn't they claim to train the same way as they will fight?
Peace time patrols involve a lot cat and mouse chasing games, most times you want to carry just enough weapons to show you're serious at the same time not to compromise your maneuverability.
This is common practice around the East China Sea and the South China Sea. When US navy CSG detected PLAAF Su-35s incoming, F/A-18s were sent airborne with no fuel tank and only one 9x to make the upcoming dog fights more favourable to them.

Most of the time I see one sidewinder and 1 aim-7 or aim-120 under CF-18 flying from Bagotville base going North in eastern Canada, with 3 fuel tanks...

No need to have more in Peace time anyway.

Hey folks, just confused on what is being replaced with what in the display team for two-seaters? They had operated 5(?) J-10S since about 2009 when the J-10A were introduced (right?), and now these J-10S are being replaced with J-10SY so new variant or is this just a new J-10S aircraft, as in fresh from the factory? As you can see im totally confused here. It's clear what the J-10AY are getting replaced with.

A good angle that shows off the sizable spine of J-10CY.
