A very exciting and unprecedented documentary which features the PLAAF's J-10 fighter ace Ru Jiang Jun leading the "Red Team" consisting of two J-10A supported by a KJ-200 AWACS against the "Blue Team" being a flight of three J-10A tasked to intercept their opposition, while the Red Team is tasked to protect their AEW&C asset at all costs.

The confrontation starts

at beyond visual range,
with Ru Jiang Jun's J-10A being detecting by a Blue Team member's radar and immediately being locked and fired at with a simulated BVR missile,

which he could evade at last minute by pulling off a very high-G maneuver, that attests to both his skill as veteran fighter pilot and the very high agility of the J-10's delta-canard design (

).

While being preoccupied with defending against the enemy BVR attack, one Blue Team fighter approaches the AWACS to intercept and "destroy" it to complete their mission and claim victory.

Ru Jiang Jun, after successfully evading the enemy attack, rushes to aid and scores his first "kill" during this exercise by taking out the bandit with a simulated short-range missile at extremely close range, which denies any possibility for it to be evaded (

At that time though, another Blue Team fighter gets into Ru's six o'clock in an attempt to shoot him down whilst he is still battling the target before him that threatened the AWACS. Seeing this, Ru's sole wingman flies straight in between Ru and his pursuer to distract his attention, which succeeds and results in a close turning fight between him and the Blue Team's fighter (

Ultimately, Ru's wingman lost the struggle and was shot down by Ru's previous pursuer (

). This sacrifice though, enabled Ru to avenge his "death" by taking out the preoccupied enemy fighter with a well-placed simulated missile (

).

Shortly afterwards, Ru's costly victory was once again challenged by the appearance of the last member of the Blue Team, their flight-leader, who remained undetected during the previous battles and immediately sounded the radar-warning system of Ru's J-10A by locking onto him from his twelve o'clock direction (

).

Fearing that the enemy would overpower him at a head-on fight, Ru decided to initiate a bold tactic: He's turning tail and engaging full afterburner to invite his enemy into a pursue, which forces him to increase the thrust and thus the speed of his aircraft, to get into range (

).

The tactic worked: The Blue Team Leader got close behind Ru only to be outmanoeuvred in an instance, as Ru engaged the air brakes, drastically decreases thrust and pulls a tight turn which leads his previous pursuer to overshoot and become the prey himself! (

Ru immediately launches a simulated missile at the outsmarted Blue Team Leader, but he isnt unprepared and manages to successfully spoof it by popping flares and chaff countermeasures (

).

The Blue Team Leader now definitely showed off his skills once again by successfully defending against another of Ru's missiles launched at very close range, by pulling off an evasive action that was bringing the immense agility and manoeuvrability of the J-10A to its absolute limits (

).

Now, with no missiles left, Ru's only hope for survival and victory was to deny the Blue Team Leader to go into offensive himself, by involving him into a close turning dogfight, hoping that he cannot bring his own, still undepleted missile payload to bear, which would mean certain defeat for Ru (

).

Knowing that Ru's only available weapons now are his board-mounted guns, the Blue Team Leader attempted to shake off Ru's aim by initiating sudden, high-G turns into different directions, making the already hard task of gunning down a fast-moving jet-fighter with unguided rounds into a night impossibility (

).

The dogfight turned into a close aerial dance between those two exceptionally skilled pilots, each trying their best to outmanoeuvre the other with increasingly aggressive flying.

But with Ru Jiang Jun's steely persistence, he never lost sight and soon understood the moving patterns of his enemy, which enabled him to successfully get his target into the gun-sight and "downs him" with two well-placed bursts from his simulated twin-barrel 23mm guns (

), claiming victory to the Red Team in this confrontational exercise.

What about J-11D? Seems like the only change has been the radar as well.
How do you know it's only been radar change?
J-10C obviously isn't any kind of official designation. But for the sake of discussion around these parts, it is probably easier to use J-10C to refer to to a J-10B with upgraded radar and likely upgrades of other avionics, rather than calling it "J-10B block II" or something.
J-10A changed radar before and we still just called in J-10A.

I think if it does get J-10C designation, then there is some other changes involved also. Which is probably good news.

To be fair, you need to change a lot of stuff on the inside just to accommodate for a new radar. Little things like battery, generator, etc.
