Top Gun at CCTV

I saw a video comparing the clips on WSJ, and it seems to me that it's just CCTV using clips for effect again.

However, truth is, China's reputation among the average person for cheapness or fakery is so great that trying to explain that at least in this case China deserves the benefit of the doubt will either be futile, or lead directly into another question, which is, "Why not just use real footage?" And I think that's a fair question.

They do this all the time for other elements of their shows too, like using music from games and movies, and I find it amusing. I've seen the same done on western shows too.

Oh, come on. There are fans of Top Gun at CCTV. A maverick employee was overcome by "that loving feeling."

Well they can't use real footage because that would be dangerous. I don't know why this is a big deal. Yeah it says CCTV is a bunch amateurs. So the only conclusion is like I said before is people are reading more into than it is by actually assuming it says that China beat the US. No, they just wanted an explosion just like Hollywood gives what people want which are big explosions. And like I said before you can't go without believing this is just a jab which they can only do since the J-20 debut. I've seen Top Gun footage use before and you never heard them complain then about it. I remember as a kid watching a kung fu movie where the only soundtrack was the crescendo beat of the Death Star trench scene from Star Wars right before Luke Skywalker launches torpedoes. Constantly throughout the movie. The media in China just doesn't know what cheese is.

AARGH! My friends are tormenting me on my facebook account linking to those articles. It's torture I tell you! torture! On a more serious note, I'm fearing I'm losing all credibility fending for the PLAAF in all these situations. If only the Norwegian articles were pro-PLA I could debunk some myths. As it is now, I'm constantly fending -for- the PLA. Ah well...the bane of those actually interested...

Why bother? These people are fishing and are not going to turn from what they want to believe. It's not like the J-20 is going to be found as fake because of this.

There is something called professional journalism, by accusing others of practising bad journalism does not excuse oneself from doing the same. The borrowing-from-top-gun farce indicates either the gross incompetence or utter lack of professionism of people responsible for the show.

I would protest if I were among those pilots in the show, with military honor totally disregarded by idiotic editors falsifying the material.

The problem is, "professional journalism" means different things between in China and in the west.

Unfortunately, we are seeing the western journalism going toward the Chinese standard in many cases.

Sorry but the ethics you advocate does not exist in this world.

What about Wall Street Journal? That's not a Chinese paper but is already not a jota better.

Just because of a chinese reporter or editor doing something not that professional or in other word ethnical, doesn't actually means that the whole journalism industry in China are down the drain. And what so 'professional' about western journalism that you mean? And by what standards are you refering to when about western journalism going toward the Chinese standard?
