On Saturday morning, Islamist rebels from Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) launched a large-scale assault on the strategic village of Qassab in the Latakia Governorate’s northern countryside, striking the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) frontline defenses at the northern flank in an attempt to recapture the territory they lost last week.

This counter-offensive began at 8:30 A.M. (Damascus Time) when hundreds of Islamists from Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army’s “1st Coastal Brigade” stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at the Qassab tower, resulting in a series of violent clashes at the northern flank of this village in Jabal Al-Turkmen (Turkmen Mountains).

Despite repeated attempts by the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army to infiltrate into the village, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of Republican Guard – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Latakia City, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and the Syrian Resistance – repelled each attempt, killing over 30 enemy combatants while also destroying 3 armored vehicles in the process.

According to a battlefield journalist in northern Latakia, the Islamist rebels from Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army withdrew from the northern flank of Qassab after sustaining heavy casualties; this was later followed up a number of airstrikes from the Russian Air Force.

I have been warning for some time that ISIS are literally breeding a new generation of terrorists who are to be conditioned from birth to be the ultimate jihadi terror weapon.

Above may be the first evidence of this, with a 6 or 7 year old playing a prominent part in an execution video.

Imagine how easy it would be for them to send that child and others like him to sneak into the west, Russia or even China in 5-10 years time, when they are still young enough to be considered children and given all the specials refugee status treatment of that, yet are physically powerfully enough to mount attacks.

It would be a whole new level of horror and terror to have child soldiers launch commando attacks in world cities and have security forces being forced to engage them.

Even the most well trained and disciplined police and military counter terrorism professionals will have a moment of instinctive pause and resistance at pulling the trigger when it's a child he/she is staring at down the barrel. A hesitation that might cost them their lives.

Even if they do go through with it, the guilt and psychological harm they are likely to suffer from having to have done such an act would likely make PTSD seem like a good day.

I see those horrors in our collective futures unless we end ISIS soon.

On September 30, Russia launched its anti-terrorist mission in Syria by the request of the country’s President Bashar al-Assad. Initially, the air group comprised about 50 aircraft and helicopters, including the Su-34 and Su-24M, Su-25, Su-30cm, Mi-8 and Mi-24 bombers. Later, the group received another 12 bombers and fighters. In total the air group comprises 69 aircraft.
