there is apparently a massive and unified terrorist assault against Government forces in Southern Aleppo currently ongoing since yesterday.
The aim appears not to reopen the Castillo Rd, but to force passage through to the most Southern and Westerly tip of Occupied Aleppo.

The terrorists appear to be making some progress; which; of itself, is not that much of a surprise given the supposed large scale of the offensive. The question is more of how much this move was anticipated or indeed intercepted by Syrian/Russian intelligence and prepared for.

The other thing that occurs to me, looking a the map, is what an insecure passage way this would be and how unlikely it would be for the terrorists to be able to keep it open.
Could it simply be a final chance for trapped fighters to force a passage and flee the city?

LOL Mr. Assad perhaps believed his own Propaganda

You may be interested Jura, that the next declared target is Kafr Hamra, which is the town just to the West of where the two SAA forces have joined.

SANA and Almasdar have been reporting all day that civilians from East Aleppo are starting to trickle out through the Humanitarian Corridors and that some fighters are also laying down their weapons and exiting as well.

... Government had lost the area around

in the morning of May 6; using that map anyway, I approximated this area by the white arrowhead, and the threat to the Government could be its forces in Aleppo might be trapped (which I approximated by the white line: I'm predicting NOTHING though):

anyway can't resist :) to compare to what I saw in Twitter

it's about five kilometers through the Government held-territory in between Marata (lost yesterday) and the sewage plant:

as the last map is usable now: the Government lost "al-Hikma area", shown in middle-top (saw a vid) etc. ... I'm going to update this evening

as far as I understand (based on what I read in Russian Internet and in Twitter), on Sunday, July 31, anti-Government forces took from it from Khirbat Mara'ta area

in the bottom-left corner of the above map, and yesterday took over Al-Hikma and Musrifah

their objective being "Ramouseh Artillery Base / Academy" (in yellow above); if it was achieved, they would connect with so called besieged Aleppo (anti-Government units in the top-right corner, "where Wikipapia sign is") ... totally critical situation for the Government forces in the area (you may want to look at the gentleman behind a Russian journalist:

have to go now

I will give my bold assessment that rebels actually lost war yesterday (August 1st 2016) . Their major offensive , announced and trumped trough media (amateurish mistake IMHO ) didn't make much progress and they suffered heavy losses. Today we already have attacks and counter-attacks without much territorial gains. Aleppo remains surrounded and likely in following days Syrian army would have full control over it . SAA is far for being effective military, but still they do have undeniable advantage in firepower, especially on open ground. They managed to wither down rebel manpower, what remains now is grinding down individual pockets of resistance. This would drag on, but without major intervention from outside of Syria, I would say that rebellion days are numbered.

... but now I read in Twitter claim(s) anti-Government forces cut the Government supply route in the area which I put in red ellipse in the map below (OK I just located the area (before I forget :) "Al-Ameria" & "Ramouseh"), I don't know if the claims are true, and I don't know about supply route(s) there):

is kinda usable, as anti-Government forces reportedly blew up tunnel bombs in, well, Al-Ameria & Ramouseh this afternoon (I mean I know where it is) ... some pro-Government Twitter account twenty minutes ago said the Syrian Army there was, quote, consolidating its positions, end of quote ... and regarding

Reports in US today of potential Syrian use of Chlorine gas...but the pictures they showed and the reported "causalities" did not match.

A couple of what looked like large plastic jugs on the ground broken, and reporting a few people with skin burns...and this supposedly from Syrian aircraft.

I do not buy it.

let me comment here (just in a general way though): I've been following the Syrian War for ten months now, so, understandably :) I saw fakes ranging from primitive (the events in a picture presented in a certain way, while it would be obvious to anybody reading Arabic that in fact something else was going on) to elaborate (cleverly inserting footage into otherwise legit video), but I noticed one thing:
If Something Is Too Bad* To Be True, It Isn't

* Bad = Good for the other side

(I'll get to real news during the day.)
