Is War Coming to Iran?

I was litening to the BBC the on Sunday (yes, people in Latin America hear the BBC to find out what is really happening in the news) and they said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad annouced on the State run TV that qoute "In the coming days the world will witness Iran's announcement of its very important and very major nuclear achievements,"

It would be horrible to think that Iran is so close to having enough nuclear material for an atomic bomb. Do you think that they (the Iranians) are still a few years away and are tring to force Israels hand? Things seem to be heating up with the embassy blast in New Delhi.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - An Iranian man was seriously wounded in Bangkok Tuesday when a bomb he was carrying exploded and blew one of his legs off and Israel said the incident was an attempted terrorist attack by Iran.

Shortly before the man was wounded, there had been an explosion in a house the man was renting in the Ekamai area of central Bangkok. Soon after that, there was a third blast on a nearby road, Thai police and officials said.

"The police have control of the situation. It is thought that the suspect might be storing more explosives inside his house," Thai government spokeswoman Thitima Chaisaeng told reporters.

Police later said they had apprehended another suspect at Bangkok's main Suvarnabhumi airport, one of two men they were looking for who had been living at the house where the initial blast took place.

"We discovered the injured man's passport. It's an Iranian passport and he entered the country through Phuket and arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport on the 8th of this month," Police General Bansiri Prapapat told Reuters.

The three explosions in Bangkok came a day after bomb attacks targeted Israeli embassy staff in India and Georgia. Israel accused Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah of being behind those attacks. Iran denied involvement.

Hezbollah is a Shi'ite Islamist group backed by Syria and Iran that is on the official U.S. blacklist of foreign terrorist organizations.

Thai officials declined to speculate on whether the two men they had detained were involved with any militant group, but Israeli Minister of Defense Ehud Barak blamed Iran.

"The attempted terrorist attack in Bangkok proves once again that Iran and its proxies continue to perpetrate terror," Barak said on a visit to Singapore.

"Iran and Hezbollah are unrelenting terror elements endangering the stability of the region, and endangering the stability of the world," said Barak, who spent a few hours in Bangkok Sunday.

Thai police said they were working to make safe an unspecified amount of explosives found in the house where the initial blast took place.

That are three explosions due to one alleged failed bomb attack. Is it not more likely that the Iranian man, presumably some kind of secret agent, was the victim of one bomb attack, while the other two explosions were mend to point the authorities to his house?

I disagree that Iran would be willing to give up its nuclear program if Israel disarms. Iran pursues nuclear weapons for the same reason North Korea does: as a deterrence against US invasion. Therefore, whether or not Israel has nukes makes no difference in this regard.

For another view to the Iranian motivations for the development of nuclear weapons you only need to look at the words of Iran’s Supreme Cleric, Ayatollah Ali Khamene of the Iranian leadership and study what he and others have said in the past regarding jihad and the use of "nuclear fire" to establish an Islamic Caliphate.

This business about "US invasion" is just a cover story for the ideas of creating a world wide Caliphate

I'm certain war will be coming to Iran. The question is when. Iran is in between Iraq and Afghanistan. That could make a war with occupation of a country of 80 million very difficult.
The other option are limited strikes against the nuclear facilities. You have to solve the technological problem of bombing them from the air or use a commando operation, possibly in combination with air strikes. There must be routes into the bunkers and commandos can lead the way for explosives. I'd think about using remote controlled unmanned vehicles and blast and shoot a way inside and blow it up with nano-thermite. However, to really deter Iran from their route you need to wage an economic war(similar to the one against Serbia) that most certainly means attacking their infrastructure, including oil related items, and especially the economic and military base of the Revolutionary Guards.
The repercussions of all war courses are loyality of Iranians for their stabilized regime that could be crumbling under other conditions. In my opinion the Iranian side is seeking a degree of confrontation they consider beneficial for their own interior political ends.

The result of US or Israeli aggression against Iran might be that the Iranians change their mind and go on to develop nuclear weapons after all. It is I think more likely that Iran will declare victory and help winkle the US out of the Middle East.

Just a curious citation from this article in The Daily Telegraph:

The latest report by the IAEA is likely to deepen Israel’s fears about Iran’s intentions, particularly the build-up of centrifuges in the Fordow facility, which is dug into a mountainside and could be immune from military attack.

Why would it be necessary for ultra-centrifuges to be not immune from military attack?
Btw the article doesn't mention the enriching of uranium at any secret site.
