Soldiers deployed in Djibouti in desert pattern Starry Sky camouflage with new plate carrier (possibly generic interim version). The helmet is still previous generation QGF03 in new cover. The boots are also from previous generation.

Also shown is an MRAP that resembles a VP11.

Take a look at this soldier's combat uniform. Take note of the different fabric in the chest area, the collar zipper, and the pocket on his left shoulder. This uniform seems like a cross between the new combat uniform and the old Type 07 uniform. That left sleeve pocket is unique though. I've never seen a sleeve pocket with that orientation on any Chinese military combat uniform until now, or maybe it was just his sleeve being worn at an odd angle. I wonder if this is an interim or experimental solution of some kind.

I just find this to be very funny. So many of PLA's equipment programs are shrouded in secrecy, that people have to do so much guess work based on rumors or leaked photos. If anything interesting comes out of CCTV segments, it's almost as if it is an official announcement. I guess a lot of the times people tend to forget that certain items can be just bought off the shelf and that's just that, it is not always some part of a big secret program...

I honestly dont understand the PLA's obsession with secrecy when it comes to soldier systems and small arms

They aren't exactly at the forefront of innovation in those fields, half the stuff ends up leaking anyways, and it seems pretty negligible in terms of creating ambiguity for those trying to gauge the state and readiness of their forces...

Probably a prototype. The US Army was experimenting like that for the ACU in 03. They didn’t announce anything as it was just that experimental. If it had been intentionally secret for the PLA they never would have cleared the images for release. Some minder along the way would have cut the footage.

Small arms? I'm pretty sure the PLA exports the QBZ 95 to Canada?
