Why can't China request HOng Kong government to improve and better it's laws in protecting the domestic workers from Indonesia, the Philippines and other ASEAN countries which will actually help China's image and help sell it's soft power within these countries peoples because such action have direct and indirect multiplier effects from these same countries that are having issues with China in the SCS dispute rather than focusing and copying western concepts of soft power through traditional route of media, entertainment which thus far has yet to deliver any tangible results for the country.

There are a-holes everywhere but only amplified and vilified when isolated cases happens in Hong Kong because it is remotely associated with China with its 1C2S.

Helpers generally had it better in Hong Kong than in Singapore.
I had Pinay helpers for more than 30 years and they sometimes hold parties in my home. Wait till you hear how the helpers relate among themselves how they exploit their employers. Some are reincarnation of Dr Jackle and Mr Hyde, deserving of an Oscar.

Unfortunately bad actors from both sides cannot be totally eliminated, but cases are broadly tarred and demonized when its remotely linked to the CPC.
For more horror stories, check out the Middle East.

Making it more difficult to hire helpers for honest families will reduce job opportunities for low wage workers earning around 150 pesos/day ( ~USD$3/day ) in the Philippines, i.e if they even had a job.

Meanwhile in Indonesia.

Nearly 20 years in the making: Indonesia could finally pass law to protect domestic workers from abuse

“If the dishes weren't clean enough, the wife would tell me to be naked and would make a video of me. I was stripped to the skin and told to sleep on the balcony,” the 18-year-old recalled.

“She would then pour syrup on my body and lock the balcony door. The next morning, she would open the door.”

I saw this as well when I posted that video from SCMP. You are right regarding what you commented above, and frankly speaking what I am advocating for is political showmanship to put countries on the defensive.

Pro-riot shop owner who sells pro-riot (not protest, but riot) cartoon theme merchandise which i would consider youth propaganda experience "freedom" in London.

If he sees something he likes in someone's car, he is also free to smash the window and take it without fear of arrest. This is a freedom that doesn't exist in Red China.

Should be our Gatekeeper, also a lecturer.
"I'm just your average lecturer, trying to pass on my knowledge and wisdom to the next generation. And defend against western hypocrisy and bullshit."

I believe many of us here would be pleased to have his knowledge again in this forum.
