Hong-Kong Protests

Great piece from our friend Nury in Hong Kong about journalism in Hong Kong.

From Nury:

IT’S EYE-OPENING to look at the statements of the Hong Kong Journalists Association through legal eyes – as Grenville Cross does with a penetrating level of insight in the article at this link.
.
My view: The HKJA was founded in 1968 by legendary HK Aussie journalist Jack Spackman. “Leave politics to the politicians, but don’t let them get away with anything,” Spackman used to say.
.
I remember Spackman well – a tall, thin, goodhearted journo who had real principles.
.
But after his departure from the group, they abandoned his wise words, and eventually became a political body, acting like a fully fledged arm of the anti-China lobby.
.
In 2002, the HKJA co-founded the Civil Human Rights Front, the main organizer of anti-China protests, along with other NGOs, including Human Rights Monitor and the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions, both funded by the USA’s National Endowment for Democracy, the American state department’s destabilization unit, set up by the CIA.
.
Today, the HKJA is infamous for not making even the most cursory attempt at balance (despite its own statement of ethics) and has diluted its credibility to zero by giving out “student” press accreditation cards for HK$20 (US$2.50) to children as young as 12.
.
Hong Kong needs a real association for journalists -- one that remembers Jack Spackman's principles and values balance, objectivity, and inclusion.

Why do you keep calling them protestors?

Insurgents, rioters, traitors, cockroaches, condoms, terrorists, take your pick, but they're not protestors.
Lol, I think I HAVEN'T called them rioters maybe a handful of times... thanks for catching one of the few.
I think it's pretty clear where I stand.
This is unbelievable. This traitor of a judge sentenced 4 white shirt anti-protestors in yuen long to 7 years in jail!

When those used condoms get less than 2 years on average. But if its patriots protecting their homes against invading condoms. Then they get maximum sentences.

Somebody needs to sort this yellow judges out. Take a good look at his ugly face!

解釋唔到, 請法官引咎辭職

The other way to look at it, it is proving the independence of the HK Judiciary. Although, this would fall on deaf ears as Western media will never publicize it.

Also, saw the video you posted on the Olympics thread. Not that they are saying "We are Hong Kong" in English, rather than Cantonese. I think it was coordinated theatre for foreign press. Also the guy just handily had a colonial flag?

Don't think the rioters waving foreign flags and advocating indepenence will be coming back...

This answers my question as to whether the cases are open are not (they are). Will be very interesting to see if the evidence will show how deep the money trail goes to the US for some of these cases. I read somewhere that the Apple Daily was losing money for many many years because advertisers didn't want the negative association with the paper. Advertising is how newspapers make money, so pretty much adding 2 + 2...

Go easy @supersnoop. I dont think @solarz mean anything by it.

But we all know that. It is more than independent. With foreign judges. Who's court would have that. But we are really whistling down the wind. The MSM will never ever mention this all the time their editors got a hole between his leg.

Yes I'm aware of that. Which is why I said "SOME in the crowd are shouting we are Hong Kong" in English. They wouldn't dare say "revolution in our time" or "Hong Kong independence" in cantonese. They would be arrested on the spot with the new national security law. They might be misguided at best. But they are not totally stupid!

I'm not sure that old colonial Hong Kong flag is illegal in public places.

All cases are always open. There's no underhand by Hong Kong government. Don't forget Hong Kong was rated the freest place in the world before all the sxxt kicked off. And these rating were rated by western agencies.

There was never ever any doubts money was coming in from the U.S. in the guise of NED. As for Apple, well yes he was proped up like a puppet he is.

This is proving my suspicion, I don’t think the police would waste time with such an investigation unless they had some idea of where it would lead. This was a organized event.

Its not really a matter of whether they are chanting slogans or if the colonial flag is illegal or not. It is the coordination to a singular place, chanting in English to enhance the “video virulence” for western media, and the fact that they already had the flag points to premeditation.

APM mall in Kwun Tong is a bit out of the way, it is not in the major areas such as Central, TST, Mongkok, or Causeway Bay. Nor does it have the history of clashes like Sha Tin. It was probably chosen specifically because the security presence was low, but easy to gather since it is right above the MTR station.

Since opposition has been running freely for the past 20+ years, it will be a long process to root out foreign operations.

Some separatists claiming Siobhan Bernadette Haughey, who won two silver swimming medals, is Hong Konger, not Chinese. They entered into argument with people waving the Chinese and Hong Kong SAR flags.

8 Years for terrorism and 6.5 years for secession. However 5.5 is run concurrently (maybe some lenancy since it was the 1st day the nsl came into effect?). Total of 9 years for the first NSL conviction.

Like I said previously, the news coming out of Hong Kong gets better and better every day.

All I can say to this scum who ran his motorcycle over the police (a crime anywhere in the world, let alone national security law) is don't go into the shower!
