Eh, I wouldn't put the Eight Nations Alliance invasion of Beijing on the same level as recognizing BNO, that would be attaching far too much importance to an essentially meaningless gesture.

What does it even mean to "recognize" BNO? That they can use it to travel visa-free to those countries? Well good for them, why should we care? Does it given them a path to citizenship in those countries? Even if it does, why should we oppose this?

Someone mentioned brain drain before, but they're forgetting brain drain is based on economic opportunities. Smart people want to go where they're skills and talents can best benefit them. All China needs to do to attract smart people from all over the world, not just HK, is to provide those economic opportunities, which, considering the current state of the world, is not exactly difficult.

Yes. You're right, of course. I dont know what come over me!

I think I was referring to the fact that these nations decided to see fit to gang up on china once again, just like they did all those years ago. And it's ironic that it was due to one of these bullying that they ended up with the illgotten gain known as Hong Kong.

And now they are doing the same in the name of protecting the same illgotten gain.

So that's what I was alluding to. Not the fact about those worthless recognition. Etc. It is more of a matter if principle that I objected to.

Well, in the Boxer Rebellion, the Eight Nations looted a ton of priceless treasures. Today, if they want to loot a bunch of cockroaches, then I say be my guest! LOL

You know what is humourously ironic about this story?

The whole year of 2019, what did we hear? "China is eliminating rule of law from HK!".
2021, the story is "China is now enforcing rule of law in HK"?

What else needs to be said?

Politics aside, this is pretty standard. In almost every country, criminals usually get deported any time it's possible.

You know, I think China wanted to treat Hong Kong as an experiment to see whether opening up to democracy can work, but the past 20 years have simply proven it cannot. Democracy is simply way too vulnerable to overseas infiltration, fake news, and mass hysteria

Spot on the first part. But I think you missed the point on the second part. Yes that's true. Criminals do get departed.

And if these Canadians committed a crime in Hong Kong. Get shot of them and confiscate all their asset. But the point is that's not the case at this stage. They are not criminals until proven in court of law. They are merely 'accused' which is why the Canadian authorities trying to create political capital out of this, but suggesting something more sinister because China is refusing them access, a bit like those Canadians held in China.
