The police, by all account if not their own reputation, won't let the public to go "DIY" on the insurgents because it'd most likely get really bloody quickly as citizens don't have ROE, like the police.

Though this morning the police finally show those boys and girls some taste of "American standard". Views on this definitely polarized, as the social scene in HK by now already, but I can tell you it's elation on the pro-establishment side.

Just want to call out that I'm pretty sure calling the protestors "insurgents" is against forum rules.

I found it in a link in an article linked to directly on the last page (or page before that).

NED is accused by many Governments around the world as a sponsor of subversion and insurrection, including of course Colour Revolutions of which the Yellow Ribbon Umbrella Revolution is a near text book version of.

It's not hard to believe the US and others aren't directly or indirectly working for regime change in China. Like they haven't advertised their dislike for the communist government? That being said Hong Kong isn't about Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a stepping stone for all of China. People were and are hoping this spreads to the mainland. When the Soviet Union broke up there were public figures calling for that to happen to China. The only reason they don't say it out loud in context of what happening now is because all you have to do is imagine if China were directly or indirectly working to change the US government to a system in its favor, how would Americans react to it? The first thing is they would see it as an act of war. Why do you think they want it to look homegrown and natural without outside influence? Because it's less risk to themselves. Look at all the sanctions towards Russia because of Ukraine. Why haven't they done that to China? I mean if you read the articles they're trying to warn Russia not get close to China as if China was the big baddie not Russia. So if China is the big baddie, then why haven't they thrown sanctions at China for all the so-called aggression against neighbors they've been whining about too. China can strike back and unleash nationalism for anything that can be associated with them. Like I mentioned before some financial analysts have attributed in part the downturn in global markets recently to protests in Hong Kong. China has been working to move away from Hong Kong which is also in part why Hong Kongers are lost in their identity and importance as being the way point for the West into China. As China more and more doesn't need Hong Kong, the West will too more and more not need Hong Kong. Any downturn in Hong Kong... the West will feel it more than China.

You forgot to list the Free Masons, the Illuminati, and their fleets of black helicopters.

I bet you think it is tin foul hat territory to think the US mass surveys the internet and phone calls.

Oh wait...

I think one is immensely naive to think there are elements in the US connected to government who are supporting this movement. I mean it isn't the first the US has promoted regime change, it is only just in the last few years that thirst are called supporting democracy and freedom and what not.

We live in the real world, and it's necessary for the US to do all sorts of mentionable and, at times, unmentionable things for its national interests. However, in the case of "OC" Hong Kong, I seriously doubt US has or even would run black ops to induce, enhance, or prolong civil disobedience; not because of any moral reservations, but because the cost/benefit don't look favorable, and the juice isn't worth the squeeze. It doesn't mean some US think tanks, NGOs, and politicians wouldn't express their own outrage and opinions, but that's probably about as far as things go.

Unfortunately I do not share your confidence and I think even you have to admit it would be very easy for influential members of government to use "NGOs" to channel money to various groups that they feel would serve their interests

I'm not saying the entire US government is sponsoring a campaign, but I think it is unrealistic to think any movement of this kind is exempt from indirect outside support.
As for foreign intelligence groups; i again refer back to history and to the present. I think it is naive to believe any movement of this kind do not have foreign fingerprints. It would be no more risky than using predator drones to attack extremist leaders or use mass electronic surveillance to gather data. The possibility of indirectly supporting a movement that creates complications for a rival government is just the kind of thing parts of the US government love.

That isn't to say the protesters do not have legitimate grievances, but it is far too short sighted to say in full confidence no foreign entities with approval of their governments have had a part in it.
