Why else would they support the termination of Individual Visit Scheme?

The Individual Visit Scheme is the gateway through which it allows pregnant mothers across to have the baby delivered in HK. It then gives the baby right of abode and the right to schooling in HK even though the mother herself may have no right of abode herself. This loophole is creating a massive dislocation of public services in HK and consequently a major economic issue.

This is the same practice as Mainland pregnant mothers attempting to give birth in the US as the child would automatically have right of abode. There is even a Chinese movie with such a background theme titled "Finding Mr. Right" shown in 2013 which actually gross over US$84 million.

Funny enough I barely read Apple Daily cuz I've seen how poor their journalism could be. I do like their "蘋果照妖鏡" and some random funny news though.

I'm 26. Damn LOl the girl that I'm chasing is older than you by one year.

Serious note though, well you've seen the poor etiquettes of the rude individuals who showed up with their luggages to buy baby milk formula. Those people unfortunately made life worse for everyone else and build a bad name for mainland Chinese, even though other mainland Chinese aren't like them. Again I'm not saying stereotype and discrimination is right, as I live in Canada and we are very sensitive to racisms. I do have 1-2 friends who are racist towards mainland Chinese and I've tried to explain that they shouldn't do that, but even then they've never said those words. I guess it just depends on individuals.

And as for the extremists, yea their ways actually cause more friction than working things out. One thing about extremists everywhere is that they take a legitimate social phenomenon (often one where they are oppressed or poorly treated) and then magnify it several times to the point it's no longer a rational level. In Psychology we explained that this can be caused by many factors, such as meeting like-minded people, thus causing groupthink, or having repeated experiences of the same thing without a proper rationalization, or even other stuffs like misinformation, self fulfilling prophecy, etc. Ultimately, it's dangerous and certainly can provoke anti-social behaviour.

You're right about the radicals. I think they are the one who sabotaged the "peaceful" protests. Anyhow, that's it for the day. Do you guys have an IRC group or Facebook group that we can chat on? I don't want to derail this topic further.

Oh yea for certain. If you consider this: genuine OCLP protestors are actually peaceful and able to maintain it that way. You can only do something like that if it is your nature to be that type of people. If you're cynic and full of anger and has aggressive personality, without proper social tools to restrain your behaviours, you will let it loose very quickly. Of course there are a lot of other psychological elements in play, but my suspicions will be that extremists are more likely to be confrontational amongst the protestors than the other ones.

I think there's sth like that on Facebook at one time. And as for myself, honestly I'm done with following what's happening in HK because it's emotionally exhausting. I'm also leaving this forum for a while.

When you have a "political" problem, there is really a process that should be followed

1) You should be able to correctly identify the problem and its root causes

2) You should have a proposal for a remedy to the problem

3) You should be able to make an effective argument for how your remedy will achieve the desired result.

This leads me inevitably to the question as too which problems have been identified as being the root for which the change to the vetting process would be able to remedy and how exactly this would work.
Without this, it starts to look all too much like a power grab for its own sake.

Hopefully two things will come out of all this. That ordinary HKers will finally find their voice and simply start to talk seriously about the things that really concern them and that a home grown talent; able to seriously address those problems and still not give concern to Beijing, should be able to be put forward and enjoy a significant consensus across the general population and major vested interests.

I have said before and will say again. Changing a political system and changing the politics are two very fundamental societal changes and that it is difficult to change one or the other without having major challenges to order and stability. Trying to change both simultaneously is reckless and most likely to lead only to very serious problems, confusion and social dislocation and people lose there anchors and reference points.

I am sorry to learn that you feel you need a break, but I can understand why.
Thank you for your last PM and I did try to reply, but alas I was to late.
Suffice to say thank you and none taken and I hope you will be able to rejoin us before too very long.

I think one can also argue as power retention rather than grab. It depends on reference point from perspective and position because in politics you have at least 2 conflicting parties both from world view and relationship.

I don't care who you support, but this guy is an asswipe

He showed up, cried about how he needs to support family and things, then intentionally rushed into the crowd. Oh he got arrested eventually for touching the girl.

That's b/s. The anti-OC radicals can't stand that people don't share their views and this guy dared to speak out. Now, they will make an example out of him.

Watch the news clip and the raw video here:

Clearly this guy tried to push the crowd, then fell onto the ground near a girl's feet and the girl started screaming "molester!" Any honest person would not say that he had the intention of molesting someone. That picture is so out of context.

That clip will never be shown in any western MSM even though there was a western news agency on the scene.

Just shameful behavior from the radicals. I went on Openrice and the restaurant's facebook page and noticed a lot of outrageous fake reviews, clearly trying to defame this man and his business.
