Well, I hope to see India induct a lot of Tejas...and earn a lot from the experience and improve them as they go.

But, the F-16 deal is hard to pass up, particularly if India gets to manufacture them in India. The finished F-16 product is going to be a better aircraft for India to use to replace all of those legacy aircraft.

I hope the Tejas continues on in any case.

The Naval version of the Tejas is still a good thing for the Indian Navy as they will probably not develop a navalized F-16.

120 aircraft by 2023-2025 is still not enough IMHO. I mean that is nine years from now whech means about 15 per year for heaven's sake. They need to be pumping out 50 - 75 per year.

the MK1A will be developed by HAL with first flight planned in 2018 and shipment of the 83 aircraft between 2021 and 2027.
During this time ADA (who developed Tejas MK1) will be developping Tejas MK2, with first flight planned by 2021 and production start around 2025/2026.
