My posts are not appearing -- don't know why !

I can't re-write everything again.

But, look for "wing-loading" on wikipedia.

And then you can compute wing-loadings of different aircrafts.

Hal Tejas and Gripen have lowest wing-loadings (which helps maneuvrability).

Indian nationalists like to exaggerate their military's technology on Wikipedia. It is a poor source of unbiased information. The wing-loading specs on the HAL Tejas are probably all conjectural anyway, so there's no way you can legitimately compare this plane with any other plane, at least for the time being.

Re: Hal tejas

Then, find a text book to read about wing loading and it's effect on aircraft maneuvrability.

What is your source of reliable information ?
(in English, please)

In any case, the discussion raised in this thread is over. These are minor engineering comparisons.

I don't need a textbook on wing loading. You're missing the point. As far as the wing-loading on the HAL Tejas is concerned, there is NO reliable source of information. When HAL decides to publish such information, then maybe we can talk about reliability.

I read the info from the Wikipedia link and from what I can understand is that high wing loaded aircraft like the JF-17 are more nimble up to a certain point than low wing loaded aircraft like the Tejas, ie. they can turn quicker but are not able to sustain the turn for long without risking engine stall during tight turns. They can also provide a more stable platform during bombing runs as they are less affected by wind-gust. The only real advantage the Tejas has over the JF-17 is its climb rate, and sustained turns, thanks to the low wing loading of the Tejas. I suppose in the end it comes down to how correctly you use the aircraft you're given in order to overcome its shortcomings and how brave the pilot is.

Re: Hal tejas

I computed a table for wing loading of all aircraft. I don't know why the moderator chose not to publish it.

Weight Length Wing Area Wing Loading
Eurofighter 16000 15.96 51.2 313
J-10 18500 15.50 39.0 474
Hal Tejas 9500 13.20 38.4 247
Gripen 8500 14.10 30.0 283
JF-17 9100 14.00 24.4 373

I also wrote in that post that these are engineering details. One aircraft will be better than the other. And there are just too many design parameters.

Further discussion will lead to subjective interpretations ..... so, I leave them.

(mind you, the above data is again from wikipedia .. in case u don't trust it)

Re: Hal tejas

Comparisons... see attached.

(It has nothing to much to do with this thread. Just a general compilation).

Re: Hal tejas

Guys let's try and keep the discussions civil. Instead of accusing one another of being nationalists we should focus on the technical aspects of HAL Tejas.

Also I am wondering whether the thread should be merged with Indian military discussions or go on as a separate thread. What do you think?

I think we should keep the two seperated to be safe - we need a thread for indian military news, but we know that anything HAL Tejas related will probably/eventually get shut down.
