Re: H-6 bomber thread

there's picture of H-6K in Chinese website, the nose radar is simple to big to be ordinary weather radar.most likely some sort naval surveillance radar.
or multi-mode surveillance/SAR radar.

^ Nice pics! The lack of a lot of rivets and bolts make it look composite constructed. The nose is definitely bigger. I wonder if the intakes look bigger too.

well, I hope they are going to starting producing it soon, since it's already an obsolete platform. Should fill in the gap nicely until more capable bombers join service.

since Russia refuse to provide backfire bomber, the only alternative was to prolong the life of H-6 bomber.

the Russians did provide backfire, but they were only willing to sell export versions and in used airframes.

Re: H-6 bomber thread

This is kind of an aside but why do many (if not all) of the H-6s still have that long antenna running from the plane's midsection all the way along the tail? Couldn't they simply take that out and replace it with something newer? I don't know a whole lot about this kind of stuff but the antenna makes the H-6 look even more antiquated.

Re: H-6 bomber thread

the first picture probably injection seat similiar to TU-22 blinder.
the radar most likely SAR/maritime surveillance/attack radar.
there's report that China use SAR to cue precision air to ground smart bomb.

Re: H-6 bomber thread

I have to agree that this plane looks like it was built with a serious amount of composite. This is only a Badger by the way it looks, and everything else underneath is not. The enlarged intakes suggest turbofans and the composite means weight reduction along with some radar reduction.

^ Hmm.... could the radar be AESA?

It looks like a high-subsonic bomb truck with advanced avionics to guide the cruise missiles.
