Re: H-6 bomber thread

Do you have a current URL for Huitong's H-6 posting dear tphuang? Unfortunately I found no valid URL or are there certain problems reaching the host server from outside China?

Re: H-6 bomber thread

My question is: does the 24 bombs help while the ice are hundreds kilometers long? Why don't they use some icebreakers instead?

It's not the ice that was hundreds km long, it's the length of river in danger. This happens on yellow river twice every year. A part from yellow river is from south to north. So the north part ice early but melt late. In spring, the upstream (south) is melt, the ice float to north, but the ice in the north is not melt, so the ice block becomes bigger and bigger and finally forms a dam. The strategy is to bomb the edge of the dam that connects it to the river bank, so that the ice can float away. The bombing on ice was taken many times, every a few years.

Not sure if anyone has talked about the cruise missile shown on this H-6 picture. Does anyone know anything about it? It looks very similar to KD-63, yet it appears to be a little "flatter" and the position of the air-intake is directly under the fins instead of behind them like on KD-63 (see

I think its KD-63 or derived from it. I am expecting to see a SLAM made out of the YJ-62 airframe.

Hi does anybody know what is latest word is on H-6K? Some reports claim it will:

1) be capable of supersonic (~M 1.3) dash

2) have pointy nose and much further back swept wings

Do you think H-6K will really be such a radical modification? When do you think it will enter service?

No and no. The ideas are more than outrageous.

Furthermore, what the PLAN or PLAAF needs is not a supersonic dash and strike bomber, but a plane with enduring loiter for long patrols and target spotting. Having the nose cone of the H-6 converted into a solid radar can fill that need.

In my opinion there are three modifications that the H-6k will have.

1: a redesigned nose to house a new radar

2: three weapons pylons on each wing

3: A redesigned tall that either eliminates the rear gun position entirely or substantially redesigns it to house counter measures/electronic equipment.

It is also possible that The H-6k may be equipment with a new engine possibly from Russia, but I don’t think that is likely.

Until they remove the wing fences and give it fly by wire I don’t think it can be considered a substantial modification that is likely to be produced in large quantity for a significant period of time.

China lacks ground attack aircraft that can carry larger payloads. The payload on a J-11 is not enough. You need at least something like the Su-34 with a respectable payload and respectable range. Otherwise, there's a big hole in the air force's capabilities. They can only deliver small tactical ordnance, and cannot engage in strategic bombing.

From my understanding, it is precisely a change in engines from a short range turbojet to a long range D-30KP Russian engine that defines the H-6K.

That's not going to be solved with an H-6.

The H-6 will be a cruise missile carrier. In the future, it may also be an ASAT carrier, and potentially might even carry those antiship ballistic missiles.

For China maybe they should just buy and license the Su-34.
