I don't think I've ever seen grassroots break news or do drawings of a design before they came out. Everything he's drawn was after the fact.

EDIT: He is supposed to have friends where he gathers news once and a while from, but by himself he's a secondary source, from what I've gathered. So yeah, I wouldn't overstate things.

Well, for one, a line drawing leaves ample room for ambiguity and preludes him from making any "errors" in his predictions.

Maybe... One reason I think, could be that the CGIs before were too impressive and colourful to be taken seriously (regardless of their accuracy to the real thing, if it even exists), and by posting line drawings it may drum up more hype.

Is this guy accepted to have some insider knowledge, or is he mostly known for his drawings?

Even huitong quoted his PL-10 and PL-15 test story last time. That's why I stated in the first post that if not for Grassroots (草根) past reputation, that little drawing would not be worth posting.

Huitong also posted about how the J-20 may be using a WS-10 (which he still hasn't removed), which we later confirmed was false. Be careful with secondary sources.

In that case, on the subject of JH-XX itself I think it's probably worth us keeping an open mind to the possibility that it may be under some kind of development.

Was it? Or did he get to the news early, and original source on the divine eagle was forgotten because his drawings drew more attention and informed more people? I myself can't say for sure either way though, since I haven't trawled around Chinese military forums in a while, but be careful about mistaking the source with the most noise with the first source.
