Huawei Gets Reprieve as Trump Aides Disagree on Restrictions

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that the Treasury Department and Pentagon opposed the tightening. Asked Friday about the matter, Defense Secretary Mark Esper seemed to acknowledge administration discussions. Esper didn’t specifically address Huawei but said there’s always a “back-and-forth” during interagency talks about proposed rule changes.

The only viable one is Ericsson but if their ceo is making big claims, it's a risk to his reputation and that of the company's.
Nah, we're living in the age of social media. Words like "reputation", "responsibility", and "accountability" have been relegated to history books. People have the attention spans of goldfish, you just say whatever gets you the most impressions.

Ericsson is making claims they consider accurate. Norway's TelNor has shifted from Huawei's 5G equipment to Ericsson's a month ago. Maybe Ericsson doesn't offer quite the same comprehensive support and are currently missing certain technologies but it's only a matter of time before they get developed and implemented. In this time, Huawei needs to try and maintain its lead while securing as many national networks as they can in the western world influenced by American politics.

Tech restrictions against China are already backfiring.
American tech companies now have to share their cakes with non-American firms by outsourcing in order to do business with China. Further restrictions by America will kill off any business. Damages already been done permanently to American reputations as reliable suppliers and business partners.
Hawkish Americans say that stopping sales of advanced tech to China will slow China advancement. Yes it will only slow down, not stopping. China still has alternative suppliers. Sure China will suffer some pain now, however within five years, China should be able to achieve parity with the world's best.
Eventually non-American firms will wean themselves off American tech to remain in the global supply chain in high technology. This is not in America's interest. It will severely curtail their competitiveness. Just my opinion.

Pentagon realizes striking Huawei too hard will go against US interest long term, now seemingly rebalancing and recalibrating

“We have to be conscious of sustaining those [technology] companies’ supply chains and those innovators,” Esper said. “That’s the balance we have to strike.”

As I mentioned before, these restrictions are backfiring. The irony is tech companies and the Pentagon are against further restrictions.

So with this virus thing throwing China in chaos at the moment, maybe Trump might have a chance talking UK into banning Huawei after all. It is really about forcing the nations of the world to pick a side, east vs west, china vs america etc

anyone know what happened to tidalwave? he got banned or he just busy? i tried PM him but his profile not even visible
