In another thread AFB posted;

California Dreamin! I spent little time in the Monterey/Seaside area a little farther North...

Well I'm actually humming that beautiful OTIS REDDING tune.

I cannot pass this by.. Otis Redding was one of the greatest soul singers of all time...when we are long dead an buried this tune will still be playing somewhere on this planet..

Otis Redding died in a plane crash at the young age of 26 on December 10th 1967.

After appearing at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival Redding wrote and recorded the iconic "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" with Steve Cropper. The song became the first posthumous number-one record on both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B charts after his death in a plane crash. The Dock of the Bay became the first posthumous album to reach number one on the UK Albums Chart.

AFB mentioned California Dreamin'.. I remember that song so well. I remember laying in my bed as a teen in Cincinnati listening to WSAI which was the top 40 station and it seemed they played that tune jut as I awoke and turned on my little transistor radio...I never thought at that time the song was a top 40 hit that I'd spend about 27 years of my life living in the Golden State of California..

The Mama's and Papa's "California Dreamin' " 1965.

thanks bd, we really are "soul brothers", some of the 70s/80s contemporary Christian music is timeless as well Don Franciso, Larry Norman, Keith Green, and others. I'm trying to remember another artist, and I will edit and post his name when it comes to me................................Leon Patillo, I used to listen for hours as I drove home from up North of Kirksville, Mo. on Sunday Night, I pastored a very small church just North of the Missouri line in Iowa.

When I was in the ninth grade at Courter Tech High School we had a Pep rally for our football team which was rated #1 in Cincinnati for about a week. At the end of the pep rally one of the the vice principals,Mr Fraizer, came on the stage.. and said..

"Now young ladies and gentlemen we have a treat for you, singing their #1 soul hit STAX recording artist..Here's Sam & Dave!!" The place went nuts...this was so unexpected.

For those of you that think the Blues Brothers coordinated that song.. shame on you. In my opinion the Blues Brothers version ..is..well... I'll stop there....

Here's the real deal..

BUT!! the greatest soul tune of all time in my opinion is..

"Shotgun" by JR Walker & the All Stars 1965

And trust me.. most of you just don't know..And if you have to ask what you don't know..you don't know...

The Beach Boys' update of California Dreaming.

Initially, I could not decide which one was better as I enjoyed both so much. Finally, I had to give the nod to the original as it sounded more innocent, with the female vocals echoing the males' singing. In the Beach Boys' version, the thunder sounded more ominous and dark.

I wonder how many people were pushed into falling in love by Minnie Riperton's Loving You, another OHW.
