By not giving GE the contract for 2nd source of F-35 engines the US made PW complacent. As a result it looks like F135 engine has about same lifetime as a Russian engine. For example AL-41F1S in Su-35 has MTBO between 1,000 and 1,500 hours and assigned life of 4,000 hours.
GE got its F15ex orders during republican reign. Naturally,...well you know how things work there
