Just like the "Honey Badger", I tell her to "relax", that simple two syllable word "INFURIATES" her beyond all reason!

ABSOLUTE STOOPIDITY! well that's stretching it but the Navy loves those "pilot-less" birds, and they would really like to drive those Big Boats where they want to, they sure don't want that dictated by the "Air Wing"??

Thanks to old Bob GATES, Dick Cheney, Rummy and Barack Hussein, they killed the F-22, because they lack the principle understanding of "Airpower"! They believed that Russia was no longer a world class threat and that China never would be?? both presumptions have proven not to be true!

Russia and China continue to "ramp-up" their numbers and more importantly their 5th gens and area denial weapons are likely to cause the 4++ gens to wilt if they had to operate in that type of withering environment on the battlefield?

The F-18 is a very fine aeroplane, and easy to operate off the carrier, its a known quantity, it is just a happy bird, and they like Jamming??. Rolling the F-35 on that boat is going to "complicate" everything. It will be a head-ache, it is a single engine, it will "dictate" a completely new maintenance and operational agenda?? I get all that, but look back, the Navy and Marines opted out of ATF and in truth, that decision has made adopting the JSF as their baby such a big deal, that they would prefer not to deal with it.

But the last 20 years are NOT the NEXT 20 years, and the NEXT 20 years after 8 years of the economic and military weakness and "Stasis" of Barack Hussein Obama, have encouraged our enemies domestic and foreign to consider things they never would have considered under George Bush. Its time to bring our Air Force, Marines, and Navy into the 21st century and adopt the F-35 in whole and in total, and integrate our Air-Power into the force for peace that will be demanded by the emerging threat!

Oh, and Happy New Year to you and your's Bub, and don't forget to bring your F-22/F-23 5+ gen onto the drawing table and begin to work on what comes next!

"... Lockheed ... entered negotiations more than a year ago on its next two lots of low-rate initial production, but was unable to reach agreement with the government’s Joint Programme Office. This mandated a price for Lot 9, and has deferred negotiations on Lot 10 until mid-January, while the manufacturer considers an appeal." LOLOL no need to start mid-January, why rush after 15+ years ... just wait for February, LockMart and

OPINION: Trump's unfriendly fire threatens F-35

I do not believe Trump is "unfriendly" at all. He is just practicing his "Art of the Deal," and he knows what he is doing.

He is also committed to a much stronger US Military which means the F-35 will be here to stay and in large numbers.

LAte's watch and see.

I think ya hit the nail on the head we all shall wait and see, someone suggested that a "simplified" version of the 35 be looked I would like to know how can this bird be simplified I really have no idea if its possible, maybe a few electronics here and there will welcome any thoughts or ideas on this subject

bro sometimes I'm maybe too relaxed LOL

what I think is it all comes down to SOFTware: if the sensor fusion worked, then yes, F-35 would have an edge
(New Year's Eve simplification would be a smartphone with a camera AND a connection to Facebook: the software (which most people don't care about) in the smartphone has to work for the camera to be taking pictures AND for the connection properly communicating so that the pictures appear on Facebook (in real time); if the software works, a newer smartphone will likely get a camera with a higher resolution, faster connection etc.)
but with glitches in the software, you may just check wiki to guess what F-35 HARDware can achieve in comparison with its competitors ... so I can't imagine any "simplified F-35", no

Now that Obama is about to be gone, now we need to either restart F-22 production or bring the YF-23 forward as a 5+ gen, with an eye toward enhancing stealth, simplifying the avionics suit to incorporate a "smarter, simpler sensor fusion! Either of these airframes are very superior in their handling, speed, and fighting ability. I would completely dispense with OVT, even though I love it, its very kool, but likely adds 25% to the expense of the whole aircraft.

You are right, the F-35 is not likely to be simplified?? but I believe going back to a Hud, keeping the HMS and simplifying all those goodies would eliminate a lot of the interface issues. Having all that Krap on your helmet looks smart to the Geeks, but in reality it is a nightmare!

If anything this should remind us that we are NOT READY for a pilotless bird, the pilot is so much more tactical in everything he does, we need to follow the path of the F-35 and give him more information, in a simplified format, at a rate that he can process!

well the point I was trying to make right above was there's no such a thing as
... "smarter, simpler sensor fusion!
...
either the software seamlessly connects all the designed inputs (it would be ludicrous to simplify by using for example just half of the original numbers of the cameras LOL) OR it has issues (says an occasional, inefficient, nonprofessional programmer :)

Well there are simpler systems, and the F-35 is designed to plug and play, so smart guy, you can also "UNPLUG" and play?? think about it, lots of those systems are being worked around around right now!
