F-15 Eagle Thread

Hi first of all, I'm always an Eagle fan, and it was my favorite jet. It was the supreme ruler of the skies until the Flanker and later planes showed up. Anyways my question now are as follows:

1. a. how/where does F-15 stand in today in terms of lethality in air battle, when facing the modern adversaries such as Typhoon, Su-35, Rafale, Superhornet, etc. This is assuming a typical entry starting from BVR as they approach one another at 200km.

b. if the F-15 is equipped with AESA, MSIP II?

c. How will F-15SE come to be? Will the modifications seen in SE ensure significant differences in performances?

2 This is the weirdest question of all. If F-15ACTIVE(with TVC and canards) is installed with upgrades like AESA, MSIPII upgrades and F-15SE features, what would/could this new aircraft be capable of?

Re: Question about F-15 lethality and potentials of modification

both saude arabia and israel was first receipient of F-15A,what happen to the aircraft? after reaching there retirement age,do the F-15A sent back to US for scrap?

Re: Question about F-15 lethality and potentials of modification

If I recall right, all F-15As are retired. Only F-15C and later variants are left

Re: Question about F-15 lethality and potentials of modification

Good question. I don't know, but I'd figure it's useless because F-15As probably served to the fullest their airframe hours, so no one would want to overfly them unless there's nothing left.

Re: Question about F-15 lethality and potentials of modification

Something I also want to hear you guys' opinions on. I'm going to build a F-15 with MSIP II, therefore this aircraft would be equipped with the latest weaponry and updated avionics. That said, this pack comes with 6 AIM-120 AMRAAMs and 4 AIM-9M or AIM-9X Sidewinders. Since the combination for a payload is a ratio of either 2 Sidewinders: 6 AMRAAMs or 4 Sidewinders: 4 AMRAAMS, I'm still deciding to go with which payload. I saw a lot of the later images of F-15s carrying 2:6 combo like the F-22, which means more focused on BVR. At the same time, 2 Sidewinders feel a little too little for me, or maybe I'm used to seeing F-15 carrying 4 Sidewinders on the wings, so I want to hear some opinions based on factual analysis for me to come to a decision.

Thanks!

Re: Question about F-15 lethality and potentials of modification

First I am not sure this thread will be here very long I am betting it's going to be moved soon.
Keeping the F15 relivent in the future is a fact of life. With the Number of F22's bought and the Numbers of F35's available the Teen series is going to be the mainline fighter of the US and it's key allies around the world until at least the 2030's.
Now keeping F15 in the fight is going to demand more then just a upgrade to the Radar. The rising Air fighters coming from Russia (Su27, Su 30 SU35, Mig 29,Mig 35,T 50) and China (J10, J11 and J20,J21) Aircraft that F15's may have to face in the Future perhaps not flown by their home builders but by Export too. These threat Aircraft change the dynamic in that before the BVR edge was on the Eagle's side now these threat fighters have A2A missiles and Radars in the Same if not superior class as well as Super maneuverability for close in Dogfights. Now Eagle can't be turned into a Super Maneuverable air frame but She can be upgraded to make her more of a killer. First the Radar updates, As well as the integration of AIM9X off bore sight missiles. Good steps but I feel a few more steps are needed. Integration of a ISRT. I would like to see the USAF adopt the SE kit for it's F15E's and development of a stealthy retrofit to the F15C. Development of newer extended range Air to Air missiles like the Next Generation Missile( Which just scraped by the Obama Admin disarmament program) but with Meteor class range.
Pilots are also going to need upgrades. by that I mean running them through Aggressor Training regimes with not just "Ghost" fighter on their Radars but Actual combat maneuver air frames that can close range and mix it up with all the nasty surprises in the threat categories bag of tricks. that may mean actually buying threat types like the old consent peg program. Adoption of a New G suit like the Liquid based Units flown by some Us allies.

Re: Question about F-15 lethality and potentials of modification

In the late 1970s a pair of F15 visited Pakistan, until that time no one in the PAF had seen anything like this aircraft

They sat there brand new gleaming sitting on the tarmac in the summer heat, they came to demonstrate thier capabilitys and against them flew two PAF F6

Long story short the Eagles were a amazing in thier abilitys, tremendous acceleration and handling, the twin engine provided much thrust, these aircraft were achieving routinely 5:1 kill ratios against good Western aircraft when they first appeared over the sky's, PAF had the honour of losing to a roughly 3:1 kill ratio!

Later in the 1980 PAF took the F16 because of its lower operational cost and dog fighting capabilitys and it being more multi role but the F15 did have a huge impression on the airforces when it was first released

Biggest mistake Soviet Union made was build the Mig-25, in return Americans threw everything into the Eagle, a aircraft designed to kill the Mig-25 which actually turned out to be less than what was first advertised after one defected to Japan and was handed over to the Americans for evaluation

for the Record The MiG-25P flown into Hakodate by Viktor Ivanovich Belenko was returned to the Russians... in Crates. Every single screw mapped, cataloged studied tested and sourced.
