I have been trying for the life of me too remember where I saw a craft like DCNS SMX-26 and DCNS SMX-25 concept. Mind you I am not Thinking real life but in fiction and then Last night it hit me. The SMX26 looks like Thunderbird 2 from the old British Puppet series and SMX 25 looks like the Mighty Go from Mighty Jack. I guess Life some Times imitates Art too.

I heard the Germans were working on a Snorkel based Chain gun for the 212 Class of Uboat. the Russians Also were Said in the Cold war too be looking into the issue.

There has been this idea to fit a recoilless 30mm canon (Rheinmetall RMK30) on the sail wich can be raised & lowered, allowing it to be fired while the sub is still submerged. I don't think this went anywere. The plan was to allow it to support combat diver ops, although that would have really highlighted the boat.
That's just an option if your able to completly overwhelm the defender in a suprise attack & then be gone before he can organize & respond.

I finally got the time to finish our last Euronaval video:

DCNS anticipates future applications with its new SMX 26 submarine concept-ship

At this year’s Euronaval show, DCNS unveiled its new concept-ship, SMX 26, a small submarine designed for operation in very shallow waters, in littoral zones not usually accessible for conventional submarine operations.

SMX 26 can remain on the sea bed for long periods, continuously monitoring its environment, before attacking its target with the appropriate assets.
