Espionage involving China

Seems like nothing more then propaganda after Canada just busted Chinese hackers going into their national defense systems. We are all aware of how laughable and unregulated the Chinese court system is so I expect these two will be found guilty regardless if they are innocent. That is one aspect of Chinese society that desperately needs changing, the corruption and professionalism in the legal system. Thankfully things look as though they are getting better, but it's not nearly good enough.

GreatWall, you seem to be just antagonizing Chinese posters here without engaging in any real military discusions. Please be more respecful in your future posts

Not that it would make any difference with the Garratts, but does anyone know if the Communist Party courts treat defendants guilty until proven innocent or the other way around?

You mean like those "enemy combatants" in Guantanamo Bay?

The FBI certainly thought their case against Wen Ho Lee was ethical. They were totally on a witch hunt. Making him plea guilty on one lesser charge was so they can spin they were right and done nothing wrong.

They are Enemy Combatants.
(Those in Getmo). They are not considered under the Geneva convention as POW's. it may sound like splitting hares but it's a fact POW's only becomes a factor in time of War and then there are Rules that apply. but Espionage is not covered and We are not at war. Accused spys come under a different classification and are.not protected by any convention.

In Iraq a good number of people were arrested simply because a local rival or political enemy reported them as a terrorist. They weren't arrested from combat. If that's okay, then any country can label someone a terrorist and violate their rights. So why do people complain about China labeling groups as terrorists? If it's a concern that innocent people can be rounded up, then why not with Gitmo prisoners? If anyone believes that all Gitmo prisoners went through some due process where evidence was presented to believe they were guilty, then why the need to deny basic rights?

Terrorism is just not that big a threat to any country except maybe Nigeria, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, or Pakistan. This is a shocking truth to the military-security-industrial complex which has become drunk on power and government spending since September 11th, 2001. The military-security-industrial complex wants us all to believe terrorists pose a grave threat to the United States in order to justify their enormous consumption of tax dollars, violation of Americans' and foreigners' privacy, and immoral imprisonment of people in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Hundreds of thousands of careers depend on the "war on terror". This is a deeply entrenched, broad-based interest group that lives on the belief that terrorists could kill you at any moment. But the facts show that is not true. Americans are far more likely to die from a car crash, plane crash, homicide, suicide, or heart attack than terrorist attack.

I have a question for the members of SDF: What are the top 10 causes of death in the United States? Where is terrorism on that list?

Wrt your question a lot depends on your differentiation. If you take "medical condition" the answer will be different than when you make a distinction between heart trouble and cancer and ..... In the second case I expect the answer to be higher than 100. In the first case about 50?
