That's exactly why China these days just don't do any talk with the Japanese, as they know it's just a waste of time. Like, you'd know the Japanese finally serious for talks if their parliament pass some bills or motions that lead into things to ease tensions.
But we all know that ain't gonna happen anytime soon.
The Chinese foreign ministry will not take that tact. Otherwise, there is no need for an embassy with Japan, or even a consulate. They DO talk with the Japanese.
The ADIZ is here to stay...I believe the US, Japan, Korea, Australia, and everyone else knows it. Voicing displeasure is one thing...but there is nothing they can do about it, and talk of displeasure over it will fade away rapidly as it becomes clear that the PRC is not using it to try and use military force to influence other disputes.
I do not believe the PRC plans to do any such thing. But they have established their intention, as a result of the needs and the purpose of the ADIZ to monitor closely the approaches to their airspace...just like the US, Japan, Korea, Australia, etc. do. That will stand.
As to the talks...I believe there will be back channel discussions to arrange it, and that Xi and Abe will talk. And that's a good thing. What will come of it is yet to be seen...but talking is exactly what the PRC has been pushing for...they will not turn away from it when the offer to do what they want is before them and say, "Ah, heck, we didn't really mean it. We know we can't trust you so we wont talk anyway, even if you say you want to."
If they did anything like THAT, they would end up looking as bad as they claim Japan has looked all of this time in not wanting to talk.
Anyhow, that's just my two cents. Time will reveal what will happen.
But as far as this thread is concerned, I believe the Chinese ADIZ is an accomplished fact.
