No, it is not. It has a funnel.

I think you've misread.

TK3600 is asking about the "004's" island shape in the CGI.

Tam is stating that the CGI artist has just taken the 003's island shape (which does have a funnel) and removed the funnel and shortened the island accordingly, for "004's" island design in his CGI, because he depicts the "004" in his image as a CVN.

Two more comments from me.

In this sketch from this post, the island of 003 also has an exhaust.

In this sketch, the hangar is drawn four decks high. That would be very unusual.

Uhhhh Intrepid, I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but you do realize that the island which Tam is referring to which "doesn't have a funnel" is the 004 island right?

See below:

How did they know 004 island shape?

Its the 003 island without the funnel.

.... The actual 003 island in the CGI obviously has a funnel, because the depiction of the 003 island is based off that post.

Sorry, my mistake, now I understand: the island of 004 is the island of 003, which has simply been shortened by the omitted exhaust.

Where "004" is misleading when there are several CATOBAR aircraft carriers with a funnel. Better should be "00x".

Is 003 suppose to be gas turbine or steam turbine powered?

what is the basis for assuming 003 island would be Dramatically smaller than 002 island?

Because there is already an actual physical mockup of it testing the instruments somewhere in Wuhan, and the 003 island mock up is built right on where the Shandong island's mockup used to be.

Yes, though the artist did dub the "004" as a CVN on the image.

I personally doubt 004 will be a CVN but rather a CV, though the artist's labelling it as a CVN fine for depiction and speculation purposes.

The 004 is the next model after 003. The 00x represents model # instead of the carrier #. Even the exterior of Liaoning and Shandong looks "identical", their internal stuctures are quite different. And I think that's why Shandong was given 002 since it's indeed fairly "renovative" inside.

If china builds two 003, then it will be 003 #1, and 003 #2. Personally, I hope to see at least 2 003 CV, but not sure how many Chinese Navy is planning for. They might just build a 003 and then move to 004.

The next model 004 is for sure a CVN model, according to some reliable sources, a "milestone"; it's already at the very final stage of designing, and will start building before 2025.

When I write 004, it is the next ship after 003 regardless what model it is. That is my definition. You may have a definition of your own.

Reason: we will discover the next aircraft carrier hull under construction long before it can be seen which model it will be. And we give it a name without knowing what technical specifications the ship will have later.
