Well this is OT but it would far, far more sense from a logistical, training and interoperability perspective, as well as operational independence, for the Indian Navy to go with Rafale, what with IAF already operating the type.

So SuperBug it is.
The problems is the elevators... Rafale are too wide for it and the superbug fit incredibly tight too.

Well ... come on PLAN, you surely can do it better with both the PLANS-16 and -17!? :p ;) :D

The irony is if the PLAN did a picture like this on the timetable the Indian Navy did when their second carrier entered service, the usual suspects would likely accuse them of prioritizing public relations rather than training and readiness.

That's a joke? Isn't it?
Here's a highly hypothetical (though I do personally hope for it to happen) take:

Well, as long as the J-35 is fully ready for at-sea carrier-based trials - I believe that conducting the first ever landing trial with a J-35 on Shandong while at sea is definitely worth it.

This is especially true if China can use the occasion to "slap" US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's face right during his visit to China in the coming days - Just like how China "slapped" the face of ex-US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates back in January 2011 with the first flight of the J-20 conducted just a day after his arrival in Beijing XD
