CV-16, CV-17 STOBAR carrier thread (001/Liaoning, 002/Shandong)

I don't see a problem on reading reports of routine Chinese fleet / ship movements. There are people that like to read them and see any footage of the event. Are we to ignore all exercises like their SCO drills, or it's missions like their anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden that the PLA-Navy conducts as well?

Sure, technical information and good images of exercises and drills are always welcome, but updates on routine movements accompanied by political commentary from a known garbage source are not.

Based on F-18 and Rafael tests from Indian carriers, should we assume that CATOBAR fighters should also be STOBAR capable, even with a reduced air to air only loadout?

It would be logical to do so. I don't see what would prevent a "CATOBAR" jet fighter from launching off a STOBAR carrier. All one has to do is remove the launch bar from the nose gear and you're good to go.

Best to not assume they are compatible until proven otherwise.

What constraints do you see to prevent the F-18 and Rafael from launching off a STOBAR carrier?

Thanks. I thought the Indian Navy have already decided on the F-18 (because of the 1st article you posted) but that's not the case. The question remains if India want to be constrained by US political demands. Has India rejected Russian jets? If not, by allowing the US and France to enter into the competition, is India trying to force concessions from Russia?

Supposedly, there are different forces that acted upon the aircraft when hitting a slope hence the aircraft have to be designed to handle those forces

Well this is OT but it would far, far more sense from a logistical, training and interoperability perspective, as well as operational independence, for the Indian Navy to go with Rafale, what with IAF already operating the type.

So SuperBug it is.
