Is PLAN were to built a few dozen of these and mimic both acoustic and radar signatures it would make for perfect decoys.
From up high above it can pass for like legit flat tops with just slight modifications.
That is exactly what I thought it was.

Shandong is in that Sanya dock!

Via foolsball, but he didn't spot the ship in the dock and thought she's out on an exercise.

This is the first time we've seen a carrier in that dock, right? Could this be the anticipated MLU?

The real MLU should be as what MLU stands for Mid-Life Upgrade. An aircraft carrier's mid life should be around 20 years after commission date or service commencement date. MLU for large ships could take up to 2 or 3 years to complete. Some ships took even longer.

So MLU for Shandong in 2026 is far too early.

I think this is a minor maintenance job like cleaning the bottom hull or having some new coatings etc.
