Thanks for the correction.

That is another thing I like with mandatory week long military indoctrinations their schools. Military service should be compulsory for one to be a "citizen".

It is funny that in the west, new immigrant take an oath to defend their new found country, but haven't a clue on how to use a gun !

It's interesting that I've taken an oath to defend the Chinese country and people in the Youth Vanguards, and another oath to defend the Queen and Canada when I became a citizen. Interesting moral dilemma if I have to fight on one side against another.

Can you tell me about the the Youth Vanguards, tthier structure etc, do they have a website ?

I am trying to set-up international exchange visits between them and IACE. We would be so happy if the PRC's equivalent would be part of the IACE !

I have been fortunate enough to be part of this movement for over 32 years of my life ! With the exception of those first 12 years years of my life, I have been uniform ever since !

It is better known as ‘Young Pioneers of China’. Nearly every single child become a member of the organisation when they reach the age of six, there are hundreds of millions of them, and officially they are supposed to be the future communists and strive to contribute in building a modern China.

The Slogan is:

"Be prepared, to struggle for the cause of Communism!"

"I am a member of the Young Pioneers of China. Under the Pioneers Flag I promise that: I love the Communist Party of China, I love the motherland, I love the people; I will study well and exercise well, to prepare for: contributing my effort to the cause of communism."

The official song is:

"We are the heirs of communism"

Note: actually, they do not do anything apart from wearing red scarfs in school (its like wearing uniforms) and singing the Young Pioneers song sometimes.

I know about the Young Pioneers 少先队 ages 7-14 years, but they are more political than military. The youth movements here in Canada, USA, Australia, UK etc are sponsored by the Ministry of Defense and other civilian leagues. Are there any youth groups in China that is supported by the PLA themselves ?

I love the aims of the Young Pioneers, I must have watched this video of them singing 50x this week, just the enthusiasm and their facial expression of these youths is enough to convince me of their conviction to the cause of nationalist socialism !

The Chinese name for them is 中国少年先锋队, don't think they have an English website.

I don't think they can be considered as the PRC equivalent of IACE, as they don't actually do any training whatsoever, but rather more like the students who are doing well academically in a school, who are awarded membership. Although my elementary school in China did have a few weeks of military training for the students in grade 5, not sure if this is universal however.

Yep. All the students in my class swore the oath and got the scarf in our second grade. I would say the organization was loose. The only thing we had to do, which was different from grade school kids elsewhere in the world and always annoying, was that we had to wear the scarf every day at school. I was caught numerous times without one on my neck and was sent back home to get it several times. And if the 1st class of the day was something boring like Chinese or political science, I would intentionally left the scarf at home so that I could be sent home to get it and miss the 1st class (this happened only a couple times before the teachers caught up with us) :p
