Anyway I've heard grumbling from the Singaporeans here about being trapped on an island during a pandemic. I would suggest trying out sea sports like sailing, windsurfing. It's not as expensive as you think if you do it once every weekend. The sea sports clubs in Hong Kong and Singapore are populated with white people - for some reason the locals do not bother trying out sea sports all that much.

I've been heading out to sea so the pandemic hasn't been as harsh on me.

When I speak to mainland Chinese friends they seem eager to try out sea sports. When I speak to overseas Chinese about trying sea sports they just stare at me and return to looking at the television. I don't even know a single Chinese American who does sea sports even though there are millions of Chinese Americans out there. Gotta stop that helicopter parenting!

Anyway I'm gonna head out to sea next afternoon - @ansy1968 wanna join me?

The national windsurfing coach of Singapore knows me (and I know him too) and he taught Chow Yun-fat how to sail and windsurf back in the 80s.

Edit: end of off topic rant

We are in NZ, has no community C19 case for quite sometime

We live like normal (apart from travelling overseas) ..... business is booming and no mask needed anywhere, apart from in public transport. I have made 5x short holidays since the lockdown in March-April 2020

Only ~5% population been vaccinated and only Pfizer is approved here, nothing else. I wish Sinovac/Sinopharm were approved as I would take Sinovac/Sinopharm anytime than mRNA.

I am relatively young(ish), so I would perhaps get the vaccine by the end of the year, and I am totally fine with that with the hope new version of Pfizer issued by then ;)

Winter here already and just get flu jab a week ago

You guys are in the middle of nowhere, so didn't travel much even before the pandemic lol

It's 4hours by plane just to Australia from NZ.

Singapore is so geographically small that it seriously induces cabin fever on a country-wide scale. On any long weekend, traffic visibly goes down by at least a quarter as a significant portion of the population drives/flies out for a weekend getaway in surrounding countries. The need to stretch the legs is palpable. Add onto that the nature of the Singapore economy being dependent on non-domestic trade, the importance of any future "vaccine passport" looms large in the mind of lots.

Well, it is cheaper to spend a fly away for a weekend abroad than to stay at home in Singapore.
We have the same thing happening in London.

I personally know some, normally anti-China people, who are actually upset they can't get the China vaccine (because it's the only safe-tech vaccine around).

Note: Just a few days ago, the Singapore govt approved the use of J&J, AZ and Sinopharm/Sinovac vaccines through the private health care sector under a Special Access Route (SAR) program. It is at own cost and own risk and any adverse effects are not covered by govt insurance for the govt vaccine program using Pfizer/Modena. More of concern, they have also not yet confirmed that vaccinations obtained under the SAR program will be recognised for eligible for the same exemptions on testing, or public health restrictions, which may be accorded to individuals vaccinated under our national programme. Which kinds of defeats the purpose really ...

How common is the knowledge that Sinovac has less side effects than Pfizer/Moderna?

Well, don't make any comments for things you have no clues  , have you been to NZ ?

Before pandemic, per capita we are one of the most travelled (overseas) country in the world, way above the US

NZ Covid-19 responses and mitigation is way way better than the UK or any other countries in the world apart from perhaps China or Taiwan

Maybe, I think the condition is that you have a vaccine passport

Have you been to NZ? ... you will see that NZ is way way safer than in the US and in many aspects, better than the US ... note: I have been to the US 7x, so I know what I am talking about

I never been to usa but a couple years ago my cousin went to los angeles for holiday, and he got robbed at convenience store with guns pointed at him
Its shocking how crime is really prevalent in the us, as if they still live in wild west and people still want to come to travel and migrate there
