Without clear evidence pointing to such things, it is not appropriate to blame them. That's what they do in life. This is a coronavirus similar to SARS and that was never blamed on being a bio weapon. At least not by any official statements. As convenient and coincidental as some things often are, they are simply coincidence. It may be convenient for the US to have internal turmoil in China and a distraction, but even a purposefully designed bio weapon like this can spread all over the world. It may not be an Ebola level scare but it can severely distract all governments not just China's.

The devils can try whatever they want but they underestimate the endurance and resilience of the Chinese people.

Absolutely disgusting if its true, reading this made my blood boil, but does China really defenceless against this type of attack? China is pretty advanced in biotechnology itself, especially in gene editing tech, i would imagine China would be able to engineer a virus if it wants to

it's happened:
First Wuhan coronavirus case confirmed in United States as authorities say threat to public from deadly pneumonia still ‘low’
  • First US case of Wuhan coronavirus reported in Washington state after man in his 30s was hospitalised in Seattle on Sunday
  • The man did not visit any of the markets connected to the virus while in Wuhan, nor did he know anyone ill, and only travelled from that area, authorities said

Yep, meanwhile more people in the US died from gun related issues than by any new virus coming from China everyday.

It is questionable whether this is even possible especially with Chinese New Year holidays just round the corner.

They should've quarantined the city a lot earlier. Spring Festival traffic is pretty much in full force right now.

Time to test how well people handle panic situation.

My guess is not going to be very well.

Panic is as much of a function of how well you *think* the situation is being handled as the virulence or "lethality" of a particular transmittable disease; i.e.: also about transparency, timely updates etc.

I would be surprised if it becomes as much of what sars was, going by the difference in health authority's response this time around.

You cannot effectively quarantine a city of millions that isn’t surrounded by natural barriers like water or mountains. If people want to get out, they will.

That is why cutting official transport links is normally the very last resort. With official transport, you at least have hubs that you can monitor and screen to try and find the infected and contain them rather than have them sneak out through some backroad and bring the infection to a totally new city that doesn’t know it is at risk until loads of people start getting sick and diagnosed, at which point another outbreak is likely to be in full swing.

This latest move is indeed a last resort to try and limit the spread during spring festival. It’s not ideal, but it’s probably the best course of action at this time.

I expect transport links to be re-opened once the holidays are over, so it’s very much a time and event specific measure and does not have much wider implications about how dangerous the situation is. This is damage limitation, not desperation.

Man seeing China's situation definitely gives world leaders new ideas about the future of conflict. This is like the next best thing to direct warfare.
