Coronavirus 2019-2020 thread (no unsubstantiated rumours!)

It comes to the question will you take an injection when the vaccines be available? I think the answer depends on where you live and which vaccines are available to you. For me, I will wait at least 3 to 6 months before I decide to take one. As China has promised, vaccines available for us might come from China. Further, we are not in Covid-19 crisis. So, there's no hurry for me.

I haven't checked the stats lately. I recall Cambodia is one of the few countries having almost zero active infection. If you're not planning to travel overseas, I don't see why you need to get yourself vaccinated.

And they're hypocritically accusing China of not releasing data on the vaccine trials. None of the Western ones have.

Yeah, the Western vaccine companies just had press releases without actually releasing any data.

We already know that the AstraZeneca/Oxford press release is full of spin, claiming 90% effectiveness based on a tiny and biased sample pool consisting of young people that were mistakenly given much lower dosage than planned when actual effectiveness on the much larger (and age representative) pool that received the correct dosage is only 62%.

The Pfizer press release was curious in its timing. Pfizer's CEO sold most of his stock holdings in the company right after the press release.

I think they were running things by the book, so were not looking to release results so soon. But with pressure from the way American companies have rushed ahead to report with the least amount of data they could get away with, it looks like China is being forced to also cut short their trials to stay relevant. It’s a fucking calamity to be honest.

I am beyond incensed that the Americans are not only being allowed to get away with putting political point scoring and corporate greed ahead of science, but that they are positively being applauded for it.

If the global vaccine efforts fall short or collapse, this would be why.

China should then ask Australia to push for an international inquiry as a sign of atonement for all the wrongs she has done towards China.

It's far more likely that COVID would have originated in India; Papa Nurgle certainly seems to bless the subcontinent with many of his afflictions.

For a moment there I was worried that Malaysia has been convinced prematurely by the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, even though the Prime Minister only has the best intentions for the well-being of the citizens, and would like to have as much of the population vaccinated and from as many sources as possible.

But today, I'm reassured by the Health Director-General's statement, who says COVID-19 vaccines must first get the Ministry Of Health green light.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah yesterday said his ministry has to look into the safety and effectiveness of a COVID-19 vaccine before purchasing it, as none has yet to produce the full report of the third phase clinical trials.

Malaysia has also made agreements with Chinese vaccine makers.

Recently, Sinopharm in a joint venture with local investors, has agreed to sponsor 10,000 doses of the former's Covid-19 vaccine for Malaysian frontliners.

Malaysia has been listed as one of the countries to be given priority to receive the Covid-19 vaccine from China to be distributed soon, according to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Malaysia is also set to conduct phase-3 trial of China-developed COVID-19 vaccine.

I would say it is a very hurried, unwise, and even dangerous decision given the phase 3 trial has not even been completed yet and there were signs of fumbling in the trials (wrong labeling of vaccine dose).

This is actually gotten to the point where I am bit "annoyed", this will be the FOURTH in-activated virus covid vaccine to come from China, and the SIXTH overall chinese vaccine in Phase III trial. Its a foregone conclusion that china's vaccines will work, I'm more interested right now in Longcoms vaccine since its protein subunit (novel like Novavax) as well as Cansino Biologics (Novel like Astra Zeneca). While I highly doubt Longcom will see the light of day (I think its arrived too late, with a bunch of also-rans), I was really hoping Walvax (China's mRNA) would be further along. China needs to develop world class vaccine technologies and processes across the entire spectrum.

Top German virologist Prof. Alexander Kekulé says COVID-19 originated in Northern Italy

In a domestic TV show recorded in Germany Thursday, top German virologist Prof. Alexander Kekulé spoke, in German, saying the coronavirus pandemic originated in Europe, and not in China.

Now, I'm not going to take the word of one expert, no matter how good he is. However in the past two weeks, some more sources are claiming Europe as the source of COVID, so its interesting to see not everyone's pointing the gun at China as usual.

I would be careful with the interpretation. He is only stating that the current pandemic worldwide is caused by the "G" variant of COVID, which originated in northern Italy. This strain is more contagious than the inital variant found in Wuhan.
But as stated above, you can not hold China responsible for the incapability of western decision makers.
