Life under quarantine in China. Seems nice place for a quarantine in both videos. Jayoe suggests that foreigners are placed in nicer places than the locals. Local hotels and resorts are being repurposed, some bought by the government for use as quarantine. The biggest enemy now would be boredom.

Given that the estimates for a number of locations are for a minimum of 25% and a maximum of 80% of the population being infected anyway, is there a case for a weakened radiation attenuated vaccine or killed virus vaccine being rolled out immediately to high risk groups?

I imagine this could be implemented in a matter of days, subject to there being enough virus material to work with.

That would be an emphatic “NO”. Vaccines at early stages are rough around the edges. You need to refine them. You need to test them as I have described before. Rushing them would be equivalent to genocides. It’s like driving through high water to escape from a hurricane. You will end up killing more people.

Unfortunately, this is the limit of our technology. We cannot cut corners. Cannot!

As I’ve said before, I completely understand that people want to act and do something when facing danger. That’s human nature. However, this is especially the time to keep a cool head. Calm down and evaluate your options available to you. realistic options, not dreams or wishful thinking. The unfortunate truth is that our current technology does not allow us speedy vaccine development. No chance whatsoever.

The fastest and most optimal time we are looking at would be 18 months from now. That’s the most optimistic time for a vaccine with the most advanced technology we have. And the 18-month timeline is already risky. Most in the field would actually consider this time as rushing it. Many vaccines take years to develop.

Thank you my friend for your calm and wisdom, you are a "cool head indeed"!

I was going to post this. I can't handle so much stupidity fit in one brain. But it's not about stupidity only. It's about sacrificing people instead sacrificing dollars.

Lets leave the politics out gents, this has become a rather productive discussion, but you need to remember, each of our cultures is different from top to bottom, and we all still need jobs and a healthy economy, taking a couple of months off will kill any business and then whose going to be there to help.... we would much prefer hearing you say your peace in a diplomatic and adult manner...

Please do not respond to this moderation: and many thanks to those of you who are keeping SDF a place were we can gather and have a rational discussion....

Guys, I'm afraid we are living through world war 3 and, this time, our enemy is invisible. My suggestion to world leaders is to temporary put down all differences in politics and work together. minus combines plus equal to minus. unless the whole world can get the virus under control on a mass surface, everything is considered as fail. China reports zero local infection is only for temporary, the second wave of infection is coming and the people of China already feel about it.

Virus mutating? 40 mutations detected in Iceland, one person has two coronavirus mutations.

That’s what viruses always do, what why we never developed a long term cure or vaccine for the common cold or flu. That’s why theories like herd immunity was at best a long shot, and at worse a total waste of lives.

COVID19 could mutate to become less lethal and/or infectious like MERS and SARS, or it could just as easily go the other way. It’s a total crapshoot. That’s why containing it is paramount, else it could become the new flu and come back every year to wipe out low single digit percentages of the global population of we lock down again, or much more if the spread cannot be contained to allow medical services to give everyone who needs it intensive care.

Yes, we can and will adapt to it if we must, but I really would not want to have to live in that bleak version of our future.

China had already shown the world how to beat this virus, Europe and Asia are now adapting similar approaches even if grudgingly and slowly in the case of some, but they are all broadly on the right path.

The Epicentre and key to tackling COVID19 is fast shifting to America.

If American doesn’t get a proper grip on this crisis and sort is priorities out, the world cannot win this fight against COVID19.

America’s historic advantage of being on a continent almost to itself can no longer protect it now that the virus is Rampant in its heartlands. If it cannot contain the virus and control its spread, the rest of the world can and will shut it out until it gets the virus under control. We have no other choice. As much as cutting ourselves off from America will hurt, having to return to lockdown or remain indefinitely in lockdown waiting for America to get its act together is far worse.

The sooner Americans realise that and stop worrying about temporary stock market tumbles and start worrying about saving lives and eradicating the virus the better.

The US is still facing a serious shortage of face masks. So if you need one for personal safety reason, please buy the unrated ones or those rated ASTM Level 1 or Level 2. Leave the N95 and ASTM Level 3 for our front line medical staff and first responders. They are risking their health, if not their lives, every time they put on the uniform.

To find out what the rating N95 and ASTM means, look at the Guide to Face Mask Selection and Use in the following link.

First of all, I'm not in the US. Second of all, we got these masks as a precaution back when the epidemic first started in Wuhan.

If you're just looking to make a public announcement, please don't quote me.
